People have always wanted to know about this wildly spinning rock we call home. Geology has tons of different branches to study that cover the working of the planet. Anybody can find something they love in Geology. Rocks, minerals, volcanoes, earthquakes, oceans, water systems, petroleum, folds, faults, mountains, its goes on and on.

(Yeah I'm kind of a fan)

Geology is a very diverse area of study. The most commonly thought of study of rocks and minerals, and immediate, current environments lets us know how safe it is to build, and more importantly: dig, in a given area, and how that area is likely to change over the decades. The study of rock and mineral formation reveals much about the formation of the earth, and helps predict, albite vaguely, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. Paleontology, which somehow falls under geology, tells us about past life, and lets us predict what will happen to current life, especially in the face of mass extinctions.

studying geology helps the people determine whether it safe to live in a particular area or not. scientists will be able to know if that particular area lies above a geologic place which has frequent earthquakes. we can also determine what causes and how much does each tectonic plate move in a year. it will help us see the future of the planet.
