In the book series "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," a super-computer declared the answer to life, the universe, and everything else to be "42." (It was a joke in the book).

My question was: Can you create an explanation that would make this answer believable?

No, that whole book is just random thoughts that sometimes are funny. I don't think the author had any reason to make the answer to the ultimate question 42.
