employees left at the office = (1 - 1/4 -1/8) of the total employees
= 5/8 of the employees in total

given that 5/8 th of the employees = 270
so, total employees = 270/(5/8) = 432

The fraction of employees left behind is:

1 - (1/4) - (1/8) = (8 - 2 - 1)/8 = 5/8

If 270 = (5/8)T (T is the total number of employees), then

T = (8/5)(270) = 432

since 3/8 are away, 5/8 of the company is present, so 5/8*total number of people=270. Then the total number of people would be 270*8/5=432

1-1/4-1/8=8/8-2/3-1/8=5/8 of the employes were there
(5/8)x=270 multiply both sides by 8
5x=2160 divide by 5
x=432 total employees
270 present
108 were on vacation
54 were away on official leave

Let total staff be x
(1/4).x on vacation
(1/8).x on leave
Total out of office = (3/8).x
Total in office = (5/8).x
(5/8).x = 270
5x = 2160
x = 432
Office force is 432
