Mycomputer starts up with a menu that says start windows normally, reboot, start with last known good configuration, etc. No matter which I pick it shows the Compaq screen, then windows xp home edition, (what appears to be...) a blue screen, and then back to the first menu. Is there anyway to log on?

you can try a system restore or try f10, i know thats what i use for a complete system recovery on my compaq thats running windows xp.

there could be a hardware problem that is preventing Windows from loading. Or it could be a software problem. When the Windows screen comes up, hit F8 and try to get it to load Windows in safe mode.

You need to go into safe mode by pressing F5 and then figure out what you need to do to make repairs.

Could you try booting in safe mode?
