I just started my period today but I am going to camp in one month. I know sometimes it's not regular for the first couple of times but sometimes it is. We might go swimming and we are definantly going to ride horses. A lot of people say you shoulden't use tampons for the first year but I want to be able to swim. What should I do? And will it be uncomfortable t use pads or tampons while riding bareback. I only ride bareback.

You can use tampons as soon as you start your period. I started right away; I've only ever used pads at night or on light flow days.
Buy some slender/junior/teen tampons (you'll likely need different absorbencies but I wouldn't recommend anything bigger until you know what you're doing) and buy one's with a plastic applicator, they're easier to insert. Find the position most comfortable for you and insert the tampon as high as it will go. If you put it high enough you won't be able to feel it. You might want to wear a pantiliner in case of leakage at first because you won't know how heavy your flow gets. Tampons need to be changed every 4-8 hours, or more often if needed on your heavier days. Do not leave it in for longer than the recommended time. If you take a tampon out too soon, it will hurt a little because it's not saturated. Don't worry if this happens though, it doesn't harm you.
Congratulations on becoming a woman.

Several things. You can use a tampon right now. You do not have to wait so if you think you want to try them get a box and use them now. Second at camp they may not LET you ride bareback as they may have specific rules there. Get some tampons now and start using them if you are interested.

You can wear tampons as soon as you are ready. It is a bit painful going in the first time. My daughter was 11 when she started. A hint if you try them. Read the directions in the box and RELAX!!!!! If you get it in crooked or panic and want it out, it is more painful to take out the tampon while it is dry. This happened to my daughter and we ended up sitting in the tub with warm water. Spread your legs and with your hands open yourself up a bit and try to let water soften the tampon BEFORE you try to pull it out. If you have your mom, sister, aunt or a friend; lean on them even if you are embarrassed. It is a fact of life. My daughter and I now laugh about her first time even though we were BOTH freaked out in that moment.

My guess is that you will not even have to worry about your period in one month. Since you just started your period chances are you will not have another one as early as next month. Don't worry and don't use any tampons just yet. It's no problem using pads while you are horseback riding.

You can use tampons during your first period if you want to.

Just buy the slenderest ones with a plastic applicator.

When you use a tampon is a personal decision. Talk to your mom.
