When someone calls my cell and is dumb enough to ask WHO they just called, I tell them they made the move, they get to solve that mystery...then I hang up.
Such behavior exemplifies an overwhelming lack of intelligence.

I get these calls all the time from my teenage son's friends. I think that it's rude to ask "who is this?", but alot of people, especially teens do not know any better. I usually respond by asking "who are you looking for?" This response usually leads to a normal telephone conversation. I think this technique works because it catches the caller off guard. It may also work for you. Also, once a person receives this response he usually changes the way he words his next phone call to our house.

If I'm at home I'll just hang up on the person. They have some nerve asking who it is when they called first! If it's at work I'll ask who's calling and who they want to talk to.

I hate that! That is so rude. If I am at work, I do tell them who they are talking to. But when I am at home, I don't give any info until I find out who I am talking to.
If I call someplace and don't recognize the voice I am talking to, I always identify myself and tell the person who I am calling for. That's just polite.

At work I announce my name when I answer.
At home I don't answer the phone. There are few things I truly hate but a telephone is one of them. It may be the only inanimate object I absolutely despise.

At work I say my name and am polite because it's a work situation. At home I say "you called me, who are you"?

They have no right asking you who you are if they're the one calling you. Ask them who they are back before you give them an answer. (You never know. It could be a bill collector : )

I make them Explain who THEY are, as they are the ones calling ME....i owe NO ONE any explanation unless they DO have something to do with me.......I have been in High tech telecommunications in Beverly Hills and there is a protocol in business. I treat the calls as business, kindly of course, however THEY must divulge who they are and their intentions...
Great question by the way!)
