I took Zantac while pregnant and it worked well for me - Tums and other chewables did not work for me.
Avoiding spicy and acidic foods is best, but other than that, try to eat several small meals throughout the day rather than 3 large ones. Being a constant grazer really helps. Also, only take small sips of fluids with meals, try to get your daily fluid requirements in between meals.

Milk, whole wheat breads, yogurt. Tums, which has calcium, is what you should be using whilst pregnant is also good for you AND the baby. The physical reason this is really starting to get bad is because the baby and your uterus have pushed your stomach and intestines all over the place and are making it easier for the acids and what not to react faster with their environment. That, and your body is probably starved for things like protein and citric acid and what-not that the babies developing body needs. If you don't eat it, then the baby WILL suck it right out of your body during pregnancy!

Well, you can try Tums or Rolaids or milk and all those behavioral things (small meals, no tight clothing, nothing greasy or spicy, elevating your head while you sleep, no lying down after you eat), but none of that helped me at all.
My OB said I could take maximum-strength over-the-counter Zantac, and that worked for a while.
Eventually, that didn't work either. I was being monitored for preeclampsia anyway, so we knew that wasn't the problem, and they did an ultrasound to rule out a gall bladder problem. And then my OB gave me a prescription for Prevacid. Problem solved. Until Prevacid, I seriously felt like the acid was eating its way through my chest. It was so painful that I was sleeping in a chair, hoping that the upright position would help. After Prevacid, it never hurt again.

I hate to say that is just a part of pregnancy..It is better to stay upright when sleeping with pillows or a chair. Lost of tums will help too. They say if a women has lots of heartburn the baby has lots of hair. Good luck

Talk to your doctor about using nexium. It helped me a lot when I was pregnant, and my heartburn was severe. It's the only thing that I tried that I knew was safe for pregnancy.

If your heatburn is in your upper/right side of your chest you need to call your doctor. If it's located in that area it could actually be a sign of high blood pressure and/or preterm labor! I would call your doctor ASAP especially since you've tried OTC medication without relief! Good Luck!

TUMS!!! Try eating regular saltine crackers too. Oh yeah and don't lay down for at least a half hour after you eat. It just makes the heartburn worse.
