Weed killer is your best bet. DO NOT BURN the plants that you pull up. The oil will still be released, but now it will be in the air and you will end up breathing it in, NOT GOOD!

Buy some white vinegar at the dollar store (2 gal at least) so you will have extra on hand if needed.
To a gal of white vinegar add l cup of salt and l T dish soap.
Mix well. (it helps melt the salt if yu heat some of the vinegar first) Put it all in a spray bottle and spray all the leaves of the poison ivy. It may take a week or two with several doses but it will kill it and it is much cheaper than any thing yu can buy at the store. Look at some picture on the web of poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac. I believe the last two have flowers. Wear gloves and a long sleeved shirt and long pants when getting near the stuff. It is the oil that gives you the rash and if it is windy it can blow on you.

First, put on a pair of thick gloves and then get a hoe and cut the plant out completely. You can buy a poison ivy killer solution but it costs about $20. I have poison ivy and poison oak around my area as well. I tried to pour clorox on it and that did not kill it.

Good luck, and don't let the plant touch your skin. P.S. If you don't know what it is, you probably don't want it anyway. Since you stated it was three leaved, it is probably poison ivy.

You can use a long bladed knife (preferably a machete) to cut the ivy at the root... or... spray some Round Up on the leaves.

Do NOT touch the leaves, especially if you tend to have an allergic reaction to this type of plant.

Whether I use a machete, or Round Up, to kill an ivy plant, I wait until the leaves are all brown, and dead, before removing it from its location.
Wear Gloves.
Do not touch yourself anywhere, or on your clothing with the gloves, until youve had a chance to wash them, or if you buy a disposable pair, then throw them away.

The way these plants work, is through the oil they spread. So -- IF you happen to come in contact with some, clean yourself with a good degreaser, like Dawn dish soap, or a product made for this type of first aid. Benadryl, or another form of antihistamine, applied topically, or taken orally will help reduce the adverse affects of most allergic reactions. I keep a bottle of the Benadryl gel in my first aid kit, for this and insect stings.

Good Luck

Ortho sells a poison to suit every weed. The Roundup Weed and Grass killer, kills everything that it touches. The local hardware shop should have a chart telling what kind of poison kills your weed. Wear gloves when you go to remove it

First use roundup or between the comb killers it is particularly for use on poison ivy. anticipate the plant to die. Then positioned on gloves and a protracted-sleeved blouse which you do no longer concepts removing, and pull the ineffective plant life up by skill of the roots, stuffing them right into a black plastic bag. Then get yet another bag, very heavily positioned the 1st bag in it, and positioned the gloves and blouse in too, being careful to no longer touch the outdoors of the bag with them. Tie the 2nd bag up and put off it with the trash, no longer with backyard compostables. do no longer burn the poison ivy. handle it like poisonous waste, as a results of fact fairly often it is. save an eye fixed on the backyard, and if any poison ivy seedlings pop up, do away with them as quickly as achieveable. they're opportunists and do ultimate in those days disturbed soil.

Crossbow excellent killer for ivy. 2% solution wont hurt the yard, either, unlike roundup. Use crossbow to take out clover in your grass too.
