whenever i dont dribble for a day which isnt many days i lose mydribbling skills then i have to work my way back up why is this

You are not that good, its all mental, I've been playing balldamn near all my life, my handles will probally be the last thing to go as I get older...its like riding a bike.

It's because you're not very good. To be an even half-decent basketball player dribbling the ball with both hands has to be second nature. You should be dribbling and doing drills every day for an extended period of time.

because you need to build up your muscle memory
when you dribble a lot it makes it seem easier to dribble, but if you go a few days without dribbling or shooting you will be a little off, that is why you have a break (in any sport) between games you never completely stop, because you risk losing the muscle memory you spent so much time building up
the more you have the easier it is to pick up later

just try to dribble more-
different drills like figure 8's, machine guns, 2-ball dribbling, etc.

its because your not "feeling it" anymore just keep practicing and you will always be "feeling it".
