I had great speed with my linksys wireless router. but today for some reason it slowed down ALOT! it is now so slow that pages take 20-30 seconds to load that used to take 2-3 seconds. I have Win XP op sys on an IBM laptop (T42). I tested it with the wired direct connection and that works fast. I disabled my encryption (WPAPSK) and IT IS STILL SLOW.

Please help me get my wireless speed back.

If you were here on Y/A's it always slows down at 7 PM (CT). It wasn't your computer.

You should re-enable your WPA connection A.S.A.P or you'll have a slow connection no matter what. Because everyone and their brother will realize someone is broadcasting free wireless high speed internet and leech off you.

Now about your slowdown issue, what do your signal strength bars look like during the slow down? The farther you get from a router, the slower the speed. Also are you using Windows Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) or are you using the wireless app that came with your laptop? I'd suggest WZC because WZC has less lag the application that comes with your IBM laptop has a short lag because it's trying to "optimize the connection" which only causes it to slow down more. I believe this is your problem because your wired connection is perfectly fine. If your wired connection was not fine I'd suggest searching for spyware as that can slow the computer WAYY down. If you need anymore help feel free to email me or IM me, I'm always willing to help.

its amazing what a simple reboot of a computer can fix. 80% of all connection issues can be solved by simply turning off the router/modem/pc, waiting a few minutes, and turning them back on.
and, as a previous poster said, check your area to see if people have the same 'named' network as you. the security can be completely different, but youre crossing the names and it will slow down.
and finally, check the cables.. worn/old cables can cause this. if youre using a dsl modem, try replacing the phone cord... i had a flood of connection issues, and then simply replaced my phone cord, and havent lost the internet yet.

Shut down you laptop
Unplug the power to your router & modem
Wait 1 minute
Plug in the modem and wait until the lights stabilize
Plug in the router
Reboot your computer

I've had a similar problem. We found out that the neighbors also had a linksys router and they both had the same name "linksys". So we renamed our router and it works well now.
