OK, on the one hand, it's not great because the big kids will be running over the little kids. Also, will the school have enough space (and playground) to satisfy the needs of kindergarteners AND eighth-graders?

On the other hand, a small school with Kindergarten through eighth teaches the older kids to be more compassionate to the younger ones -- and the younger ones can look up to the older ones. Everyone gets a chance to learn from each other -- because out in the real world, we all have to live with people from many different generations. It's good to get used to it while you are young.

It really depends on the people in the school, and how the school handles it. I hope it turns out OK for you.

By the way, I know of an international school that has kids from K-12 all in the same building. Their end-of-the-year concert was excellent! Everyone working together -- it was pretty cool! Like I said it depends on how it is handled.

I wouldn’t want to attend an elementary school that was from Kindergarten through 8th grade. I would STILL be in self-contained elementary classroom structure in 8th grade. I don’t think I would be able to make a successful transition from elementary school to high school. There’s a reason why there is a junior high school. It is there as a transition from elementary school to high school. Without a junior high school, it would be like taking a major part of your life and having to live like that. And it would be very difficult to go through life like that. I would still be with the main teacher in 8th grade. I think by 8th grade, students are mature enough to be on their own. 8th graders cannot take electives since electives are given at the high school level. 8th graders are still treated like a baby when they should be treated more independently. They should be able to make decisions like picking their own classes. But since they are in elementary school, they cannot. Therefore, it is a bad idea for children’s emotional development.

I went to private school and that's how it was...you went to school with the same people for K-8.

There were good and bad things about it. Of course, if you peed your pants in k they would remember it all the way to grade 8 but at the same time you created the most incredible bonds. My closest friends are from back then.

Most private schools are structured this way. When I went, when we reached middle school age, we passed classes. One of the teachers taught Science, one taught Math, one taught English and one taught Social Studies. We had one of them as a home room, and then we passed classes. One cool thing was that we stil had recess like the elementary kids. They don't do that in public school.

What would be horrible about that? It's the same amount of schooling...just divided differently.

Umm...I did it. It was great. I only had to transition from different schools once, rather than losing friends in the shuffle twice. But to each their own.
