just look on the drive, if it has a little dvd+/- r or r/w/. then you have a dvd burner.
or you can check in the BIOS or the system hardware manager

See the front of the drive, there are logos for CD reading, writing, DVD reading, writing to DVD- and/or writing to DVD+ and RW and logo for dual layer writing too.

Whether or not any of them broken is entirely a guessing game, you won't know until you actually put them in.

Check for the icon that burns CDs, it should also say DVD on the label below the icon indicating what it can burn, if it doesn't double click on it and read the instructions that comes with it.

Go into My Computer, right click, go to properties, click hardware tab, click on devices, and look under cd/dvd drives.
