I used to think it was solely about digestion, but asked my pediatrician. He explained that it is largely because babies' temperatures are so easily impacted by what they ingest. (Cold formula could bring down their temp quickly and too much, in addition to being harder to digest.)
He explained that room temperature is a-ok (for example, if you use bottled water that is not refridgerated to mix formula) and even preferable over warmer temps.
I also read that bottles should not be terribly warm if you use a warmer (just room temp or slightly above) for two reasons: 1) to encourage the baby to stay awake during feeding and 2) because their body temps are so easily affected (same reason why they should not ingest refridgerated beverages).
Hope this helps!

Babies prefer warm bottles as opposed to cold. My son is 10 mos and will drink room temp formula but not cold.

My son only drank his formula cold. I tried to warm it a couple of times but he refused the bottles.

Simple: Mother's mild is about 98.6 degrees. Baby wants what Mommy's have: warm milk.
Also, it is better for their tummys. Some believe that many of Americans digestive problems are caused by ice drinks!

I didn't. I gave my baby room temp when she was on the powder stuff. Then when we had to switch to a special ready to feed version, I would give it room temp right from the can and just warm the stuff from the fridge til it was room temp. that way, she was easier to feed on the go. it is all about preference.

#1 It disolves better, nothing like trying to stir power into ice cold water.
#2 Because then it more closely resembles the fact that breast milk is at body temp, so the baby will be more inclined to drink it.

Because it's nicer for their tummies. Breastmilk is warm from the mom's body, so that's sort of what babies are born expecting.

To bring it to a warmer temp, closer to breast milk, so that your baby can more easily digest it.
