As much as homo(s) struggle to convince me that a belief in Behavioral Genetics is a humble, meek act nothing could be farther from the truth.
I've received more "violation notices" here than anywhere else, just because i disagree. And people like you are asking for my opinion, WTF?
A lot of "hate" has to do with perception. It doesn't take long for special interests groups (like gays) to get all wrapped up in their own pet peeves ..and start hating others.

Bless you, Dearest, they hate because they fear or don't choose to understand. (and the "reverand" is a little boy playing with a computer) Of course it feels good to love. I've loved my Best Beloved for almost 27 years and will go on until the last breath leaves my body -- and hopefully will find her in the next life.
God Loves, Man Hates. If all these so called good Christians turned the other cheek and were kind, the world would be a much better place. Jesus said NOTHING about homosexuality. Paul did, but Jesus not a word and last time I looked it was Jesus who was supposed to have been the Savior (and this from a Pagan)
I always like love your neighbor as yourself and do unto others as you'd like them to do unto you. Some of these people must hate themselves an awful lot, don;'t you think?
Blessed are the Merciful and Bless us all.

Hate is the by-product of ignorance and fear. This is a fact that individuals know and have taken advantage of down through history and, as you know, even exists today. Take a person with a lot of charisma in a group of people that is fearful and ignorant, and he can make a good living at it.
Sadly, that is what a lot of our religious leaders have done and are still doing so today. In fact they cater to those fears in order to gain a following for themselves and reap the reward that they know will surely come. Fear and dislike of gays is probably the number one hate rouser of the evangelists today and they do take advantage of it. They justify it by quoting scripture which they say supports it, when in fact, it only seems to support it because that is the way that they interpret it.
I think that this is going to continue until people start learning to use their brain and reason things out for themselves, rather than go along with what their pastor tells them. I know that when I try to send someone from here a message to explain why their views are inaccurate, I am inevitably rebuffed with the old non-answers: 1. It's an abomination!, 2. It's just plain not natural or, 3. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

Some see it this way:
How much you can love something without really hating something else. Whether it's the exact opposite of what is loved, or just is not the same as whatever is loved, the hate remains. So, passion/love and apathy/hatred maybe different sides to the same coin.
e.g. Someone may not like a certain race just because they aren't their race OR they really have an affliction with them because they are the polar opposite of whatever it is they identify with in their race. Same goes for creed, sexuality, country, and S.E.S..
(btw for some people, it feels great to hate. why is that?)

Lydia,
People don't have to hate. They are TAUGHT to hate.
The words from a song from the Musical South Pacific put it better than I think any I have heard since I first saw the show on Broadway
You've Got To Be Carefully Taught
You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a different shade,
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!
This goes for anything. Be it religions, Sexuality, companies, products. It is the result of our life experiences. And when as the song says you see a little boy at a KKK rally lighting the cross, or a young man throwing taunts at another young man at school because he is "different", it is because they have been carefully taught. And the teaching doesn't stop at home with their parents, it is their aunts and uncles, grandparents, Classmates, and other associates.
It is not about power either, although some wield prejudice with and to gain power. But they are leaders of organizations. Organizations that prey on the emotionally weak, the nazi's of ww2 Germany. The Arryian Brotherhood today. All feed on the insecurities of our children and insecure adults. They teach them hate, in place of compassion and acceptance.
It is about teaching our children to respect differences. To be tolerant of others no manner what the difference is.
It is really about teaching our children the opposite of hate. This is, teach the the real meaning of love to our children so they can teach theirs in return.
And this too is where our gay community must head. Teaching tolerance to the members of our community so they in turn can teach other by their actions and words.

This is a good question honey.
I believe people hate on others because they have issues with themselves.
It make them feel better to feel hate for something else, instead of looking at the real hate for themselves.
These people do not realize just how much they are missing out on.
Count yourself blessed that you are an intelligent young women with a free spirit.

There are 2 basic emotions--love and fear. All others stem from those roots. Hate is a form of fear.
Simply put, some people harbor a fear of others who are not a part of their societal group and that fear manifests itself in the form of hate. It is terribly destructive on the person holding it, and when it erupts in violence, it can be devastating for those it is directed at.
Can we overcome it? Yes, but I have very little hope that it will happen in my lifetime. It will require enormous energy and time.
Thank you for the question.

People who generally are unhappy with themselves *hate* things in others that they see in their own actions. However, hate is a very wasted emotion...It has no effect on the person being hated...it just eats away at the hater.

The only stupid question is the one you never ask.
People usually hate because it makes them feel powerful or that they are better than others. It is a shame cause it is really hard work to be that angry all the time.

People hate because they are ignorant. They think if people are not like them they are "odd" But who is to say who is odd or different?
