I have rusted grill grates and it says to put in a self cleaning oven, which I don't have. Can I turn my regular oven on a high temp and get the same results?

Take your rusted grill grates and put it in a large sturdy black trash bag.... Spray with oven cleaner and leave outside during the day in the sun.. Spray with a garden hose and wash with soap and water...

No, afraid not. Self Cleaning ovens are insulated and designed to heat to 900 degrees farenheit, which literally cremates everything in the oven. Your conventional oven can only hit 500 degrees at the most. See the recommendation above and try that.

Not unless your oven can reach 800 degrees... which it cant.

The above poster's idea could work... as long as your grill grates are not aluminum.... also, this method will remove the nasty baked-on grease, but if your grates are severely rusted, you need to run down to Home Depot and buy yourself a new grate. It is pretty inexpensive, and will give you the best results.

Rusted grates are garbage.

you can not clean with your oven and if you spray the heating element and turn the heat on you will need repairs.
