When I got my period, I too was embaressed to ask my Mom. Don't worry too much about tampons. If used properly, they don't hurt. For some people it takes a while to get used to them. Here are some simple guidelines to get you through your first tampon:

1. Wash your hands- this is to prevent infections
2. Get the tampon (still in wrapper) and unwrap it
3. The tampon has an applicator, which has 2 parts. The first part, the top part with the fluffy cotton tip, is the part you stick into your vagina. When you're doing this for your first time, it may be helpful to go into your bedroom, lock the door, and put some music on. Relaxing helps get the tampon in. You then gentlely glide the first part of the tampon and applicator in until your fingertips touch your vagina (you should be holding the tampon at the part where the first part of the applicator meets the second part of the applicator).
4. Push the other end of the applicator until the tampon is inside your body.
5. Remove the applicator.
6. That's it! You're done! If you put it in correctly, you should not feel a thing- just like it was a normal day. If you haven't wiped yourself first, I would recommend wearing some pantyliner for the first hour.

I don't think you should have too much to worry about. My directions are basically the same you can see on any regular box of tampons. You shouldn't worry unless you don't wash your hands. Also, if the first try doesn't work out (and for some people, it doesn't) you should try with a fresh tampon. I know your pain if it doesn't work out - I had 7 periods before I could put one in! Good luck!

using tampons is a lot more comfortable than using pads. Start out with the regulars or the junior sizes and adjust to the size that works best with your flow. I recommend the Tampax pearl in unscented. They are a plastic applicator and are more comfortable to insert. It may be a little uncomfortable at first because your afraid of using them but once you get the hang of it you'll be relieved that you did. No more messy pads and stained clothes. If you put the tampon in correctly you cant even feel it. It's worth a try. Don't be scared its really gonna be OK. Promise!!!

I got my first one in today. but anyway, i'm going to be completely honest with you.

-It didn't hurt THAT much, it was more of a discomfort feeling, but once it was inside of me i didnt feel a thing. It is more comfortable than pads.

Basically, tampons are better. i was scarred to use them too at first, but you dont even feel it once it is inside of you, because as soon as their in you they do their job and start obsorbing , so they get really soft.

You can't do anything wrong, you just got to find the "hole" i know it sounds atupid but it was kinda tricky to find it, but all you gotta do is with your right hand take two fingers and open the lips up, than with your other finger insert the tampon into the hole and push the applicator in, than a white string will be hanging down.

You really cant mess up...and they are so much better, i am 13 by the way.

Well. I hate pads also. && i really didn't want to learn how to use tampons because i was scared to. But i had to learn how to use them for swimming. && when i finally did thats about all i where now! Exect at night.
They do hurt the first couple of times. But after that, there way worth it!
Just talk to your mom or older sister; and tell her that you want to use them, cause they are way better.

Guys are so funny when they make up excuses to get a girls number. Honestly i wouldn't show her the video i would just say hey i really like you and i wanted to know if i could get your number. Girls don't want you to squeeze and try to get there number with an excuse. I wouldn't want that. If i knew they were doing that i think i would laugh a little because you guys always go to the effort to try an ask a girl out or get there number when really you shouldn't embarrass yourself and just ask what you wanted to ask her. A real guy would come straight forward and say "hey i really like you and i was wondering if i could have your number." Just Straight forward ask her and im sure if you say i really like you then she might just give you her number. never know. :)

Tampons in my opinion are a bit more neater to use, but you are a bit young for them. At your age I'm sure you are still a virgin and still have your Hymen (the little piece of skin that covers the entrance to your vagina) If you decide to use tampons before you loose your virginity, you will probably break your Hymen and no longer "technically" be a virgin anymore. There is also the issue of TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) which can make you VERY sick or even cause death in rare cases from the use of Tampons. My suggestion would be to talk to your doctor or your mom about this before you decide to use them. It is very important to know how to use them and to take proper care of your girl parts as well. I know it is very embarrassing, but they will understand more than you think. To me that wold be better than trying to do it on our own and possibly hurting yourself. Your lucky, a lot of girls like myself didn't have a mom to talk to about these things and had to figure them out on their own, and that sucks and is really confusing. God gave you a mom for things like this, you can count on her for guidance!
Good luck on your decision sweetie ;o)

No, tampons do not hurt. I have used them for years and much prefer them to pads. There's nothing to be afraid of. It's kind of weird at first but once you get used to them you will like them so much better.

start with the smallest size, there are one made for teens called slim fit. there will be an instruction paper in the box, read it and it will tell you and show you how to put one in. Once its in you won't be able to feel it, if you can, you did not put it in far enough. It won't hurt, it won't make you not a virgin. Talk to your mom too, she's done this before (for years!!!) and can help you alot!

hey hun.
i was scared too my first time..
i find that if you just put your foot up on the side of the tub and insert it in at an angle it wont cause you discomfort.
but make sure you dont leave one in for more than 4 hours.
if you do that bacteria in you will collect and maybe turn into toxic shock syndrome.
but they shouldnt cause you problems if you dont forget about them.
and never leave on in over night.
