this is the type of thing unix is great for.

Open up a shell and type in
cat |tr '[:punct:]' ' '| tr ' ' '\012'| sort| uniq -c| sort -n| grep

where is the file to count and is the word to count. You can replace the first cat with echo where is the passage in entirety in text form typed in surrounded by double quotes.

See we could do that without buying something like in windoze.

Have you checked what option does grep work?
