A friend of mine is a physical therapist and is pregnant. She has stopped lifting patients or anything heavy since the time she found out she was pregnant. Her co-workers are good at helping her with things like that. But do you think it would be OK for her to work until about 2 weeks before her due date?

Most of my co-workers have worked up until they delivered...and some of them remained on the medical unit (where they had to help transfer patients) and they did not have any complications (other than being uncomfortable. A couple of my co-workers did have to go on bed rest and leave early...but i would say this is a good question for the OBGYN. PT is all about using good body mechanics and leverage and avoiding strain on the body while doing movements...your friend should know a great deal about how to avoid stress on her body.

as long as she feels well and the dr ok's it she will be fine. If she has help with heavy lifting, and is doing mostly manipulations at this point then she sounds like she's doing the right thing.

Her body will tell her when to stop because overdoing it while pregnant can be quite painful.
