This is an everyday argument. Whenever someone in my house asks me to turn it up or down I ask whether they are hot or cold because I can never figure out what they mean. With me, when I say turn down the AC I mean make it warmer and when I say turn down the heat I mean make it cooler.

Well if they say it as meaning turning down the temp on the AC setting then that would make it colder in the room
But if they say turning down the amount of coolness that the AC is giving off, then that means that the person wants it warmer.

AC can be used to condition the air so it is warmer or cooler, so it depends.

But usually it means warmer.

turning down the AC is going to give less cool air. I turn it down when I think it's too cold and would like to be warmer.
They want it warmer.

Warmer... Think about it... When you say the AC is blasting, it usually means its really cold. Also, I usually say crank up the AC when i want it cooler.

If it's in a car it means turn down the fan... like how hard the air is coming out of the vents. If its in a house or somthing... it means to make it warmer... unless someone says "I'm going to turn the air down"... then it means colder.
