Suggestion: Use as an opening line the statement that man is an animal of habits, therefore: extremely more comfortable when in a well known environment, constantly seeking for references and sense of belonging. Popular things provide a behavioral guideline that is known to lead to acceptance by pairs. Than try to speak of the importance of a well built, strong, personality into distinguishing popular from correct, moral, ethic behavior. Pick out some common examples like drug consumption in teenagers - who may do it because it's seen as cool or because they're too afraid to say no and be labeled as nerds - and how that can ruin a life in a split second.

Its a start, but what does it have to do with cliques?

Cliques are built upon fear. People cluster in small tight groups because they are fearful of being a single person among the mass of people. They are not better - they are merely more scared.

Is that the title, a quote, or the opening line of the paper? It is catchy, but just make sure it ties together with the paper! :)
