Remember when Fred and George gave Harry the Marauder's Map of Hogwarts and Hogsmede? How come they didn't give the map to Harry during Harry's second year at hogwarts? Harry could have used the map to find the Chamber of Secrets.

wait...now I remember...Correct me if I'm wrong: The chamber of secrets was opened 50 years ago, which Harry's parents didn't exist at time until later on. The Marauder's map wouldn't have had inscripted on the map the exact place where the chamber of secrets was. Otherwise, the creators of the marauder's map would have to include voldamort since he was the one who discovered the chamber. Plus, the map would have been confiscated for dark magical objects. Only voldamort's death eaters would have been able to get ahold of the map, and Fred and George don't like to mess around with dark magical items.

They really didn't think about it in his second year, and they didn't seem aware he was going to go looking for the chamber. Plus they may not yet have learned all the secret passages and needed it to learn all the passages. Then there's the fact that the map would not have showed the location of the Chamber of Secrets as James, Sirius, Lupin, and Pettigrew would have had no knowledge it was on the grounds, much less how to get in (recall the students were told by Professor Binns that the chamber was little more than a myth, it's unlikely it would have been mentioned when those four were at the school). You also have the fact that the two felt sorry for Harry who couldn't go to Hogsmead so that's why they gave it to him. Also, the map shows not just all of rooms, gorunds, and secret passages, but whose where, something both boys would find handy when sneaking about the school. Finally, it may have taken the two that long to figure out how to duplicate the map.

Well, I'm assuming that the Chamber of Secrets doesn't appear on the map, seeing as the Marauders didn't know where it was. Plus, don't you think Fred and George would have told Dumbledore or McGonogall if they knew where to find the Chamber... especially as the basilisk kept petrifying people left and right?

For one, they probably didn't think that the Chamber of Secrets was a huge deal for Harry of all people to find. They are pranksters after all. It may have been a big deal in the school, but Harry was twelve and they didn't generally use it for such important things anyhow. Getting to Hogsmeade was probably more interesting to them. Besides, the Chamber isn 't on the map, like the Room of Requirements. James, Remus, Sirius, and Peter would have needed to find it and non of them are Parseltongue. I don't think it shoiws the pipes either, so he couldn't see the snake. Hope that helps!

The Chamber would not have shown up on the map, because I doubt that the Marauders knew of its existance or where it is located. It's just like the Room of Requirement. That room is not on the map either.

Well, if they knew that Harry was looking for it, and especially after Ginny was taken, they would have looked themselves on the map for her and the Chamber. If they'd found it, they would have found a way to tell people without revealing the map. So it probably didn't show up on the map.

I'm not sure Fred and George even knew that Harry was looking for the chamber of secrets.

the chamber was hidden magically it would not have shown up on the map and Fred and George had no reason to give up such a valuable commodity to Harry especially if they were still using it themselves

I guess Fred and George, felt they didn't know the map as much as they did in PoA, and therefore didn't want to give it up. It's a very good question. Get on J.K. Rowling's site...

They only gave the map to Harry so that he could get into Hogsmeade with the other third years. Since he didn't have that year in the 2nd year, they didn't even think of it.

Rowling likely had the twins not give him the map because then that would drastically reduce the length of the book.
