Well my last period started June 1st (it was late) and i was at the doctor so i wasn't pregnant at the time. Well she put me on the depo shot and i went back on the 4th to get it, (still on my period it was day 4). Well for the past 2 weeks my husband and I have been having unprotected sex. This is my first time ever being on birth control and so far it's going good. I just want to know what are my chances of being pregnant? I mean if i am that will be great, when can i take a preg. test to find out? I was on the shot for exactly 1 week before me and my husband had sex (he's in the army and came home on the 9th), so had it been in my system long enough to become effective? And don't talk about std's or anything because i know i'm clean and he is too (checkups) plus we are married so there is no sleeping around on each other. No negative comments please!!!

No contraceptive is 100%. I know someone who got pregnant on depo.

You are protected on depo for three months.

They say the shot is affective immediately but you should use a second form of protection for at least two weeks.

i became on Depo for 5 years. as quickly as I first started it, I had fairly short sessions (2 or 3 days) that have been very easy. After the third shot, i ended bleeding altogether. i desperate to alter to the pill, and the 1st couple of cycles have been heavy, and the cramps have been terrible. appropriate to the time i became due for the subsequent shot (if I have been going to get it) I have been given pregnant. My husband and that i in no way used condoms or spermicide on an analogous time as i became on the shot in the process the 5 years. I believe the shot extra so than the pill. i began on the shot returned when I had my son, I definitely have been having easy sessions that final for some days, in simple terms like before. i've got not had any issues of the shot, yet that's in simple terms me.

hey ther ehere is some info about the depo, hope this helps. I am a big fan of dep and of Implanon (the three yearly injection as I don't have to worry about it for three years, it can be taken out at any stage and also it is more effective.)
Anyways, here's the info on Depo:

How does it work?

Stops ovulation
Thickens the mucus at the entrance to the uterus (cervix) so that the sperm cannot get through to fertilise the egg
Alters the lining of the uterus so any fertilised egg will not implant and grow.
Does it work?
"Depo" is almost 100 percent effective.

It should be started within 3 days of a period starting, for immediate protection. If Depo-Provera is started at any other time in your cycle, it is best to use another form of contraception for seven days.

The injections wear off after 12 weeks and there is a leeway of one week after that. If you have not had another injection in that time, it is advised that you use other forms of contraception.

What are the advantages?

Does not interfere with sexual intercourse
Can help to reduce endometriosis (thickening of the lining of the uterus)
Helps reduce the incidence of uterine cancer
Reduces the risk of thrush and pelvic inflammatory disease (an infection that can lead to infertility)
Can be used by women who are unable to use contraception that contains oestrogen.
What are the disadvantages/side effects?
There are concerns that a woman may harm her baby by taking "Depo" when she does not realise that she is pregnant. To date, however, no serious foetal abnormalities due to the drug have been reported.

Side effects may include:

Headaches
Weight gain
Irregular bleeding
No bleeding
Depression
Loss of libido
A delay in return to fertility with 60 percent of women pregnant within twelve months after stopping the drug, and 90 percent pregnant within two years.
The main problem is that, if a side effect does occur, it may well last for the duration of the injection which is twelve weeks.
Some evidence indicates that Depo-Provera may cause thinning of the bones. This is believed to be reversible, once the injections have stopped. Thinning of bones is of concern for young women who have been menstruating for less than three years. This period is a critical time for young women to build up their bone strength for the years ahead.
Research shows that "Depo" is significantly associated with a loss of bone mass while using the method, particularly with long term use (longer than two years), and has received a black box warning in the USA. This indicates that women and doctors, considering using or prescribing "Depo", should consider the serious side effects associated with this drug and consider alternative contraceptive choices first.

Research also indicates:

Bone mass loss is probably reversible if women stop taking Depo.
For young women who may not have put down their maximum stores of calcium and should still be increasing bone mass, there is a possible increase in the risk of osteoporosis in later life.
It is important to maintain bone mass through diet and exercise regardless of age of the woman using "Depo".

If you got the shot a week before, then you are protected and the shot will last 90 days. You won't get preganant. It is a great form of bc but you must make sure you drink a lot of calcium b/c it can weaken your bones...
