Damaged the keyboard by dumping pink lemonade (with pulp) into keyboard. Tried cleaing it by removing keys and washing them with soapy water (that worked)! Then cleaned the keyboard bed with q-tips and alcohol. All looked well until two days later when lemonade residue dried out and turned to sticky glue-like substance.
But you only wanted to know what doesn't work...
Sand blasting - doesn't work
Acid washing - doesn't work
Tumble washing on the delicate setting - doesn't work
Beating against a rock - doesn't work
I'm sure there are others...

I have personally used the dishwasher method many times, use low heat and remove it as soon as the wash cycle is complete. Then leave the keyboard to dry for at least 3 days, I usually leave them in my laundry room where it's very warm and dry.

Don't use the electrical contact cleaner in pressured cans. It will melt the plastic contacts under the keys.
I use mild soap and water with a tooth brush then blow it off with high pressure air.
Wrap your keyboard in Sandwich wrap (cling wrap) and it will stay clean. If you live in a very dirty enviroment you can purchase a special keyboard that is easy to wash.

I did the dishwasher trick with an old one and after 24 hours dry time, it was spotless. Works fine.

No, I consistently use the compressed air and it leaves a protective coat over the keys etc, to bathe the reveal screen you're taking like Windex and placed it on a towel, overlap the moist area with the dry area and wipe gently.

I'm told you can put it in the dishwasher but make super duper sure that it is 100% dry before you plug it in again.
