where you were and what you were doing?

Mine are:

1. Space shuttle explosion I was in 6th grade in Japan watching it on television live in my class room
2. Baby Jessica in the well I was playing cards with my niece on the living room floor
3. Princess Diana car accident I was laying in bed sick with the flu reading people magazine.
4. September 11th I was in lockdown in the middle of a typhoon in Okinawa Japan, laying in bed when my husband woke me regarding the first hit (i thought it to be a drunk pilot) woke me again on the second hit and I knew then (grabbed my bags) ready to be recalled to work. When the third plane came under attack I dropped to my knees and began to pray.

What do you remember in your life that you reflect on.

#1) 9/11. I was at work... listening to it on the radio... we then flipped on a TV when the noise from the 2nd plane flew over heard of someone live on the air on the scene. Couldnt work the rest of the day... went home watched Tv in a almost coma state of shock.

#2) Fall of the Berlin Wall. Just before my14th birthday I was watching TV when the news cut in. I asked my parents what thie meant... and my dad said if your lucky it means that unlike your dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather you may not have to go to war.

#3) Asian Tsunami.... Day after christmas 2004...just enjoying the day off work and the internet news started with the reports of a large tsunami and the scale of it kept growing. 225,000 + people died... so hard to wrap my mind around that number.... also the fact that only a handful have this on their answers is surprising... but I guess since it didnt afect the USA it doesnt register for most. 100 times more people lost than on 9-11!

#4) Last one is more of a happy one. The USA Hockey Team beats the USSR team. Feb 1980 I was 4. My whole familily was watching... My grandpa and parents went nuts when the scored to take the lead and then at the end.....The whole thing I think is where I my love of sports comes from

1.) September 11, 2001: The Worst Attack Ever on our soil. I was in school when my teacher said something about the trains not running in lower manhattan because of an attack. At first I didn't know what he was talking about until I got home and turned on the television to watch the news. Every news channel had aired different news segments based on the attack. I WAS SCARED AND GOT WORRIED FOR MY FAMILY!!!

2.) Columbine High School Shooting: April 20,1999. Many high school students were shot and killed in shootings.

3.) Virginia Tech Shooting: April 16, 2007. Similar to the 1999 attack but 33 people died as a result of the shooting. This attack made me wonder if terrorism still exists after the post 9/11 world.

4.) London Bombings: July 7, 2005: This at the time made me wonder if we learned anything at all after 2001. Many Britons as a result feared the future and took many steps further to prevent things like that from happening again. The following week, I visited Britain and experienced the trouble everyone had to go through with heightened security. Most flights departed late mostly due to the screening of materials. I remember one time that even a small materialistic material such as a comb was considered dangerous. Now that's something to remember!

1. 9/11. I remember, I was in 5th grade and I had just gotten out of bed. My mom was watching the news, and I remember her saying, "I knew that would happen eventually.." Of course that was before the second one crashed and my mom thought it was an accident. When the second plane crashed...we were speechless.

2. Virginia Tech Shooting-I don't remember how I heard about this, but I remember watching a news story on it one time...

3.When I was little, there was this news thing that said that little kids need to be careful with those dolls that have moving mouths. I didn't know what it meant..so I thought the dolls were coming alive and eating the kids hair.

4.Princess Diana's car accident...I remember seeing stuff about it on tv all the time, and my mom was always watching stuff about it...

Afghanistan, 2001. Jumped in under fire. Somewhere from 10 to 20 seconds it took from exiting the plane to landing on the ground and watching those bullets flying around us knowing someone is trying to kill me. Hitting the ground under fire is something I'll never forget.

Afghanistan, 2004. A rocket attack at a traffic control point. A child was severely wounded. The little guy was lying there screaming, bleeding to death. Every time I tried to get out to him, someone put a bullet into him or one of my wounded people. I couldn't get to him and I couldn't pull out. I watched a child die.

Coming home for the third time and deciding I'm staying. I very soon left the military and that first few moments after I walked out of the office as a civilian is a few seconds I'll always have with me.

And lastly, the first time I ever saw the woman I'm going to marry. I don't know how but I knew this woman in the parking lot was the woman who's going to make me happy for the rest of my life.

Excellent topic! I'm only going to use things that happened in my lifetime.

1. 9-11. I will never ever forget what happened on 9-11. I was in 2nd period Drama class at the time when the principal announced that a plane had crashed into one of the twin towers. I was shocked for a minute but I tried to go on with my day normally but still thinking about what happened and what might happen. When I left school my mom told me that our family friend and our neighbor worked in the towers and I got really worried for them. Then I watched the events on CNN and I ran up to my room and cried then went online and was shocked by what was being shown online. TV was all 9-11 for at least two weeks and everyone was commemerating and grieving. It is the one event in history that brought everyone together, made everyone think differently, made people respect their country and freedom, and changed everything.

2. The Red Sox coming back from 3-0 down to beat the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS and then winning the World Series. It was just so fascinating to see the Yankees lose the series like that and then completely breaking their curse and winning the world series.

3. David Wells' perfect game in 1998. I put this down because I went to the game. I only wanted to go because I wanted to get the Valentino Beanie Baby they were giving away that day and it ended up being a perfect game. I was offered $1,000 for it and a ticket stub from the game but I wanted to keep it forever as a keepsake. When I went to the Hall of Fame and saw the bear there I pointed at it with my mom and we said we were there and a guy next to us was in total disbelief that we were there.

4. Princess Diana's death. My grandma was in the hospital because of a tumor at the time and our house could not keep away from television coverage of the accident and her funeral.

Sept 11 - I was in school. An announcment came over saying a plane had "accidentally" crashed into the world trade center. About an hour later another announcment came with what was really happening.

The DC snipers - I was at home when I saw the initial report but afterwards I was under constant lockdown.

The destruction of Columbia - I was at home and my mom came in and flipped on the tv and we saw the shuttle disintegrate.

Sorry, I don't have a fourth.

When I was in high school, the chemical plant nearby exploded and we had to evacuate the entire town.

Princess Diana's tragedy

September 11, 2001 It was my first year teaching and our school was only a few miles from an Exxon chemical plant. We evacuated. They were afraid it my be a target.

Hurricane Katrina-- I live in South Lousiana and saw first hand how the tradegy affected our entire state. I will always have memories of people writing important information on their bodies with Sharpies so that when they died they could be identified. We were also out of power for 7 days.

Hi,

I can quite honestly say I cannot think of any happenings that have made a lasting impression on me.

I was surprised by 9/11 and the London bombings, Diana getting killed and the Indian Ocean tsunami 2 years ago.

I know I was at home when each one happened.

Perhaps it is because I was not involved in any way that makes these tragedies seem distant.
