This is too large a subject to do justice to here.

Essentially both the American Colonies and Great Britain were in financial difficulties due to the Seven Years War. Each looked to the other for help. Resentment grew on both sides, mistakes were made that inflamed these feelings, until there was a final break. For more details, please do a little research. there are many good books and websites.

~First and foremost, the "Revolution" is a misnomer. The conflict was a civil war. As to the rest of your homework, the question is far too basic for me to condescend to answer. Next year, pay attention in class and do some reading. Of course, if this is not a homework question and you are asking out of curiosity, you still need to get off your lazy but and do some research. In short, everything you need to know can be summed up in a simple word: greed. Or as Thomas Paine so eloquently put it: "Give me liberty or give me debts".
