You go to a once a year party your company has. You don't leave your wife's side only to get the coats to leave. If you see others you don't work with you don't even say hi. Everyone around you knows your wife wears the pants in the family. You usually act very shy but when you get too know someone you joke around with them and they all know you flirt with just this "one" women at the job because she gives you attention. Are you not leaving your wife's side because #1 you are scared of her and #2 what she might say to your coworkers and #3 are you afraid a coworker might tell her about the real jokester and flirt you are?

Just for the record I am the one that gets flirted with and I never go to the party My best friend witnessed his actions with "the wife." I am concerned that his coworkers might spill my name at next years party.

Assuming your scenario, you are not leaving your wife's side because you don't want to end up answering a bunch of really sticky questions out of fear of your wife.

If you want any advancement in this company, don't take your wife next time. All your worst sides show up and everyone can see what an pussycat, insecure and incompetent you are. Management don't like a man who is wearing the pants in the family, at least talk like that is equal partnership.

If you are the wife in this situation I'd say explore an option #4. He's scared because his wife is making too much out of some harmless flirting. Don't take it so seriously. It's in front of all his co-workers. If it was something more than harmless flirting he wouldn't flaunt it.
And if your the husband, tell your wife what I said.

I kind of fit that description, but I don't flirt much at work. I have been married for nearly 6 years, and love my wife. But when I'm at work I am different than at home, not much but a little. Personally I prefer having a small number of close friends, and when I'm in a large group setting with people I don't know I feel weird in my own skin. I'm the life of the party with people I'm comfortable with, but again I don't like mixed company regarding people I know and people I don't.

I usually cling to my wife at work parties because she doesn't know many people, nor do I due to the nature of the business. There are people I want her to meet, and others that I don't care to interact with. It has nothing to do with hiding anything from her, but rather trying to get her to make friends with the people I like from work. We're in a new town and don't have many friends, and virtually none from my network. It would be nice to spend time with "my" friends, rather than "my wife's" friends all the time.

In the past, I have revealed things to coworkers about my marriage in confidence that I wouldn't want my wife to know about as she would over-react. I have avoided those people in the past in fear of a slip of the tongue, but as I've gotten older, it doesn't happen anymore. Nothing sleazy, but I needed to vent to others and gain reassurance about my own decisions.

I'm sorry, don't know the whole story, because there are two sides to every story, but no one need to be afraid of their spouse, and no one need to wear the boss in any relationship, each person have their own strengths and thats where the unit must pull from to be a great unit and a wonderful relationship, ( you must complement each others strengths and weakness )or the unit will be eventually pulled apart

I don't completely understand the question but it sounds like insecurity..? If your wife has that tight a noose around your neck then I would stop flirting and just obey my wifes orders. Of course I would never be in that situation, but hypothetically..
