He was a replacement player and not a member of the MLBPA, which is the reason some players are not in video games.

Also, who did the Yankees commemorate in 2000 with their armbands?

Well, as I agree they're not up to par this season, they won a World Series championship in 1996, 1999, and 2000 - all with a black armband.

Can't imagine why. The uniforms are provided by the team. Anyway, while the union is obligatorily protective of the rights of its members, it is not inhuman. Objecting to a small symbol in memory of Lidle is not something it would do.

From the story on ESPN.com:
"Lidle was an outcast among some teammates throughout his career because he became a replacement player in 1995, when major-leaguers were on strike.

Although Lidle was a replacement player, his family is entitled to complete pension benefits and other union contract provisions. The only thing Lidle and other replacement players do not receive is a cut of the union's licensing (from baseball cards, fantasy sports, etc)."

The 2000 Yankees armband was for former manager Bob Lemon.

I hope not. That would be pretty classless. If the union had an "official" objection, then I don't think the active players on the Yankees would be allowed to participate.

The 2000 commemoration....are you sure it wasn't 1999? Joe DiMaggio passed away that year.

I thought they wore the armbands to commemorate all of the former Yankees who died. I'm pretty sure it started when Catfish Hunter died a few years ago.
