I didn't look them up to see if they removed the spyware you've been infected, but these are the ones I've used and liked.

Ad-Aware

Spyware Blaster

Spybot Search and Destroy

Microsoft Defender (requires a legitimate copy of Windows to download)

I recommend you use these programs (they are free).

1) AVG Free anti-virus
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

2) Ad-aware spyware remover
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

3) Spybot - Search and Destroy spyware remover

4) Advanced WindowsCare Personal

5) CCleaner - registry and privacy cleaner

Running these programs in Safe Mode (Tap F8 after powering on the computer and choose to boot to Safe Mode) can be more effective.

If after performing these steps you are still experiencing problems download HijackThis. But do not remove anything without first checking with the online community, it will find both legitimate and malicious software.

If after exahusting these options and you are still experiencing issues, there is really nothing more you can do except to reformat your computer and start fresh.

There are lots of free antivirus trial softwares available.

Norton
Panda
CA
Trend Micro
McAfee
Kaspersky
etc...

Just google free trial and the name of the antivirus software that you want to try... They usually have a 1 month free trial period after which you can buy them.

Oh, and another thing. You might also want to do an additional scan in Safe Mode. To do this restart your computer, keep pressing F8, and then select safe mode when you get to a screen with options. After you get to safe mode, try scanning your computer. This way sometimes you can get rid of malware that you can't get rid of when you boot your computer normally.

Spybot is a good program to get rid of spyware.

Ad-Aware is good to remove Adware.

I think you can download both at www.download.com or just go to google and type the names in.

I had viruses a while back, but once I got my computer fixed I've use both programs about once a week and havent had any problems.

May I suggest just buying Norton's.....its definitely worth the money!!!

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free.

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1. We use this website and it is great. I had two trojan viruses and some other stuff and it has gotten rid of all of it. My computer works faster now and this product is much better than norton or mcafree. This program catches things the other ones don't.
