If a burglary or another crime like rape is committed , the police could check the data base and find the culprit.
Who doesn't want to catch a rapist??
Law abiding people would have no problem, their prints/DNA would not come under scrutiny...no problem.
Only people who break the law would have reason to fear..Do you agree or disagree?
People who say it infringes some rights or other can't see that if you're innocent you won't have to worry.Only the guilty will need to fear.A fairer system all round.

I can't see how it could be cheated.

Pee...fair enough...explain why...
No rapist would get away with it...

We would have to make sure the system was reliable of couse, but once we did that...criminals look out.
Would it infringe their human rights to get away with a crime or something?? The liberal left would find an excuse.

Retox...Imagine (God forbid) that you were brutally raped by someone who had not previously been convicted...wouldn't it be great to know that he would still be caught.
What difference would it make to you that your DNA was on the database, your life could still go on in exactly the same way.

It would have to be compulsory though...you can't see your friendly neighbourhood rapist volunteering do you?

Oh yes, definitely. DNA at birth if you ask me. It would discourage crime and save so much time and money in tracing criminals. What would there be to fear if you are a law abiding citizen?

The UK has one of the biggest DNA databases in the world already. I hear what you are saying but the problem is I just don't trust the Government or the Police not to make mistakes and that is the problem. So No, I would not like my DNA stored - I have never been in trouble with the law so why on earth should I be on a database out there with criminals. Criminals should have DNA taken and kept on a database on arrest as they are the ones likely to re-offend in the future. Another problem is that DNA could be planted and so you could end up being prosecuted for a crime you did not commit. In fact yesterday there was a story of a woman who had lost her job as she is recorded as a convicted criminal by the Police - her job requires her to be routinely checked (care worker) and after the latest check she appeared on the criminal register. The Police are "reviewing their files" - how long will it take to sort this problem out for this woman. You cannot trust the authorities enough.

Update: I hear what you are saying however, with all due respect, quite often the police have the DNA of the criminal - it is our justice system that ultimately let's a lot of criminals off. Look at the recent rape case of a 10 year old child - he judge deemed that as the girl was dressing provactively, she was fair game - that puts our justice system back to the 70's It's a dilema and a good question.

You have a right to be considered innocent of any wrong doing until you are found guilty of a crime.

What you are suggesting is that a lot of quite innocent people should have their lives interfered with, and personal information about them stored on government data bases without them ever having done any wrong.

Think for a moment about the potential for corruption ~ all it would take is one official to accept a bribe and an innocent person could be convicted of a crime they have not committed.

Additionally, not all crimes can be solved by DNA evidence, so it would be a huge waste of money with regards to the majority of crimes.

Sorry cannot support this idea!

Best wishes :-)

the idea is good, but there would need to be some changes in the law so as to allow for different lifestyles.some normally law abiding people still break the law when they get home at night, although nothing worth locking them up for it would be a black mark against the name of the person in question, so a few small changes in the law would make such a system very effective.

This is something that will be debated in parliment I'm sure, but I believe that one day there will be a world wide DNA data base which will be compulsory. Babies will have their DNA sample taken at birth. There will be obvious advantages from such a system such as with crime and also with paternity!

As with everything else such a system could be abused. It could be the start of Big Brother! - One World Government etc.

Hey why not a Bar Code on your forehead then the police could scan you with a bar code reader when they drove past. My local councillor told me one of the advantages of being a new city is we are getting a passport office. Great until you realise that it's for the administration of identity cards

Honestly, that would not really work so well, or at least for many years to come. I'm sure a lot of criminals would find some way to avoid this.

I completely disagree - and if you think its smart to sleep walk right into a real Big Brother State then go ahead but lets hope you are never the vistim of a miscarriage of justice.

There are still many things that could go wrong.

DNA and/or fingerprint evidence could lead to lazy detective work.

Many innocent people have found the courts do not always get it right.
