...I remember the NBC T.V. movie quite well (I actually saw the original presentation), and I've had a commercial-broadcast VHS copy of the film for years; it's a little action ditty from 1977, entitled "Exo-Man", starring David Aykroyd. Universal Studios had originally intended to create a series, with the T.V. movie being the pilot; this, of course, fell by the wayside, long ago.

That sounds like MANTIS but I think his armour was black/dark greenish. Was the hero the black guy from ALIAS, Carl Lumbly?
