No, but it might save you time in the future?
It is good practice to replace them all if you can, but if you don't, the engine won't fall out. Yet.....

properly, i've got been engaged on autos for 4 an prolonged time, and that i've got by no potential heard of a correlation between a undesirable motor mount and a leaking oil pan gasket. although, if the two require alternative, the cost is probable not too some distance out of line. counting on which motor mount it rather is, and the variety of Buick it rather is, the motor mount itself is between $40 and $one hundred twenty. The oil pan gasket is approximately $20. If the oil pan could be bumped off without worrying any steerage linkage or different circulate individuals. hard paintings could be a pair of million/2 hour. If linkage could be bumped off, perhaps an hour. lower back, counting on which mount it rather is, alternative could be so basic as helping the rear of the engine with a jack and an hour of hard paintings at in spite of the hourly value the save quotes to a pair of hours if the mount is between the greater durable to get entry to. some require loosening the bolts on the different mounts and lifting the engine somewhat to get adequate get entry to to change them, and this offers to the time required to do the activity. i could ask him to tutor you the collapsed or broken motor mount on the vehicle. it is going to be obtrusive, even to a non-mechanic if the area has failed. although, yet another verify you may make your self is rather basic. carry the hood. commence the vehicle, and the two manually perform the throttle in the engine compartment to rev the engine various circumstances, or get a chum to attain this with the gasoline pedal on an identical time as you watch. If the mechanic's premise is authentic, and if the motor mount has rather failed, you may see a substantial shift in the engine each time you rev the engine, as that's the motor mounts which save the engine from moving around. If one has failed sufficiently to reason the oil pan gasket to shake unfastened (which nevertheless seems almost preposterous to me) then the engine could be wobbling particularly discernibly once you rev it and permit the gasoline off persistently. on the different hand, whilst you're short on money, purely tighten up the 20 or so bolts retaining the oil pan on, and stay with somewhat seepage if any keeps to be. i've got by no potential seen an oil pan gasket fail so catastrophically that oil loss grew to grow to be a significant component. in case you have a small leak, you basically verify your oil point somewhat greater oftentimes.

No.
You only need to replace the one that's bad.
Suggestion:
Motor mounts often go bad as the result of oil leaking onto them and deteriorating the rubber. You may want to look for, and resolve any oil leak problems.

You could maybe get away with not replacing all of them. Problem is, if one is bad, the others could be going as well. While you have the engine unbolted and lifted to replace the one, it's relatively easy to replace them all. It will save you time and money and aggrivation in the long run.
Short answer. Do it. Change 'em all and be done with it.

The vibration and wear and tear over 17 years has probably damaged the other mount as well. You have to pull the motor, do the smart thing and change both.

Do you have to???? NO.... Should you? In my opinion, you should. If one goes bad, then I figure that the other one can't be too far away. If you are low on money, or aren't planning on keeping the car, then just change the one. good luck.

It is smart. If one is broken the others have been doing its work as well as their own. I would replace them all at once.
