Can't be done with just a paper clip. You need at least 2 tools to pick a lock. And it takes a long time to learn.

Randy and Gypsy Girl are correct , you need a pick with a slightly bent end to push the pins up and another to keep a tension on it by twisting it so the pins don't fall back down. Watching too many MacGuyver re-runs lately ? And God Forbid if someone offering help sends you to a site where you might have to learn something.

There's an article on wikihow.com that tells you how to pick a lock. Just search up how to pick a lock in the search bar on the top right-hand corner.

now, I hope this isn't for illegal activities.....

No you cant unless it is a really cheapo lock.
You can, however "jimmy" the hasp with a piece of tin cut from an aluminum coke can. It is a neato process that helps you to understand how the lock works.

some cheaper locks can be picked that way. but not too many. Most require a Rake and tension set to do it right.

Sorry. if you don't want to know how the lock works, your chances of picking it are slim at best. It's hard to do anything if you don't know what you are trying to achieve.
