I know this doesn't answer your question, but the answer is E. None of the above. A comet's tail goes away from the sun because comets are made of ice. Because of solar radiation, the ice melts causing water droplets to form and create a tail as the comet is moving. The closer to the sun, the longer the tail.

The answer is that the tail only exists because of the suns gravity. Gravity creates friction with the comet form course and it sheds some of its mass in the form of a tail. Comets do not have a tail in the deep space.

The ionized/plasmatic component of comet tails are always radially oriented in respect to the Sun. The plasma tail of a comet is always precisely radial to the Sun because it is formed by interactions between the comet's nucleus and the solar wind.

A comet's "tail" is NOT made of plasma. The "tail" is made of dust and microscopic ice particles that were "boiled" off of the comet by the sun's heat and pushed away from the sun by the solar wind. .

So I'm guessing that since you have so many rather simple (and obviously homework) questions posted, that you haven't been doing your homework and since school is almost over for the year you're trying to catch up.
All the answers to the questions you posted are in your school books if you read them.
And this one is C.

This is obviously a homework question, the way its worded. Why dont you just read the chapter in the book where this question was located, rather than have others do your work?
