Most custom bikes these days are running tires in the 250-300mm range. Tires that wide require either offsetting the transmission (and possibly the engine) up to an inch and a half to the left to get the chain to clear the tire. Problem with that means that your bike is now unbalanced to the left and you have to ride with your butt half off the seat to keep the bike upright. That extra weight on the left side also creates handling problems. With a Right Side Drive transmission, the transmission doesn't require any offset for the drive sprocket to clear the tire so the bike stays more balanced and easier to handle.

There are right side drive transmissions.
This way, the final drive (belt or chain) will clear the ultra wide rear tire without having to shift the engine/transmission to the left (needed to clear tire), which would effect balance to bike.
