How can I get my Computer to recognize my DVDRW not as a CD drive so it will burn?

I am trying to burn a dvd file, but my comp reads the drive as a cd drive so the burn program wont let me open the folder to select the dvd file to burn. Please help

There is no software configuration necessary for CD/DVD it happens transparently so what you ask makes no sense, perhaps the burning program is so outdated it does not know a DVD when it sees one.
