Great plan hun! Try places you wouldn't normally think of too - like cake shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants (you can usually glass collect or wash up at 16), McDonalds (I worked there for a year part-time! It wasn't so bad!!) and Argos (the pay is supposed to be good).

For a 16 year old, minimum wage is only £3 an hour... although in London you might get a bit more. For an 18 year old, minimum wage is £4.10 per hour. When I was under 18, most jobs I had paid around £4 per hour.

Can you type well? You could try office temping! I thought I'd hate it, but I did it last summer. You get a lot of money (usually between £5-10 per hour) and it's flexible. Click onto http://www.reed.co.uk to get in touch with a recruitment agency. I'm not sure whether they will let you do it at 16, but it's worth a shot!

You could also consider labouring or factory work; which you can usually find through the Job Centre!

Usually, the maximum you can work in a week is about 38 hours (full time). Let's say you'd be on £4 per hour, that's £152 per week... although you'll probably get tax and National Insurance taken off this. I reckon you'd take home between £120-130 per week.

Hope this helps!

xx Emmie

Good idea though what the average wage is in retail these days I have no idea, hopefully they won't just pay you the minimum wage.
