The first band to consistently put out awesome album covers was, of course, The Beatles. Don't have links, but Sergeant Pepper was considered the best of all time, Abbey Road is recognized all over the planet, Magical Mystery Tour is really great, and Rubber Soul is really cool. Those Yes covers look like fantasy/sci-fic book covers---not bad, but I'll put the Beatles top four covers up against them any day...Brian

How about these classic gimmicks on the original releases

I always loved the Led Zeppelin III cover, It had a disc riveted behind the face that could be spun to show many 'far out' images through circular cut outs. Plus the music is some of the best ever by them.

I believe The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers had an actual zipper in the close up of a pair of jeans.

And Cheech and Chong's - Big Bambu originally had a very large cigarette paper packaged along with it.

Oh, and Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick had a newspaper with articles about the young boy prodigy who supposedly wrote the words to the song.

My favorite is AC/DC's Blow Up Your Video album, in which Angus is kicking through a TV screen.

A close second is Stiff Upper Lip, where Angus is immortalized like a grammy statue.

I also like LA Guns first album. Always liked that symbol with the skull and the six shooters.

Check out his website, his covers for Alan Parson are so cool

I think the Wedding Present had a real talent for the album covers. I can quote "Geoge Best", "Tommy", "Bizarro", "Seamonsters", "Mini". But their masterpiece is the collection of 12 singles, with a design of each number of the month.

Motörhead, aside from their Ace Of Spades album had some of the wickedest covers on the music store wall!
