Many homophobes slam gay marriage because they assert 'the purpose of marriage is for a man and woman to produce offspring-so since couples of the same gender can't reproduce, then gay marriages are invalid'.
I see- so men are supposed to regard women as nothing more than breeding stock. Most straight couples I know marry because they love each other- not because they want to have babies...What about straight couples who can't concieve- or don't want kids. Are their marriages invalid?

I find it especially interesting some of the self appointed experts on family and virtue who slam gay marriages have been married more than once....
Rush limbagh has been married multiple times- what does he know what makes a healthy marriage?

Homophobic or heterosexist people who have half a brain don't claim biological abnormality as a reason to oppose homosexual marriage. Rather, they use the idea to oppose homosexuality entirely.

Those who use the biological basis to oppose gay marriage have a disjointed argument, and your question/assertion does a good job to point that out.

No. And we need to pass a constitutional amendment requiring fertility and genetic tests of all prospective married couples. No one that is infertile, has a serious genetic defects, or has a family history of genetic defects can be permitted to marry. Couples will have 2 years to conceive, and if they fail to do so, the marriage is immediately annulled and the court automatically issues a restraining order to assure that the couple does not continue to live in sin and flaunt their immoral lifestlyle.

Ideally, since the Bible tells us we're not supposed to allow the races to mix- why else did he put different races on different continents?- we will also amend the Constitution to undo the damage of those pesky "judicial activist" Supreme Court justices who outlawed the bans on interracial marriage still enforced by our more enlightened, God-fearing Southern states until 40 years ago.

Furthermore, once the last child hits 18 and the woman hits menopause, the marriage must be immediately dissolved so the likely still-fertile man can remarry... it's God's plan! We must be fruitful and multiply, since the human race is on the verge of extinction. And, of course, we certainly cannot have senior citizens running around remarrying, since this would be sending the wrong message about The Sanctity of Marriage and what it's all about!

I've always found that procreation thing to be the lamest excuse people use as a reason to oppose gay marriage. People who say that cannot come up with a reasonable answer when you ask them about a heterosexual marriage in which the man and/or woman is physically unable to reproduce or in marriages in which the woman is post-menopausal.

Marriage is only a sham designed to ensure female fidelity, and so that a man passes on his worldly possessions to HIS child and not someone elses'.

In the modern world, marriage is a decleration of love and fidelty to one person. Does it matter what the gender is?

As for the children aspect, are we so close to the animal kingdom that procreation is the only purpose? If that is the case, where does the intelligence that painted the ceiling of the Sistene chapel come from?

I married my wife and neither of us wanted childred - at that time. So, was my marriage invalid? If so, can i have a refund for the divorce costs? ;)

According to the homophobes, no, the marriages are not valid, whether it's where one partner is sterile or they're an older couple where the woman is past her child bearing years.

Naturally loving each other has nothing to do with marriage, just making babies.

(sarcasm off)

For the record, I agree with you.

Homophobes are also hypocrites, anything you've pointed out only applies to some people - heteros get immunity.

You should also ask the homophobes about if a parent is dead or leaves because most homophobes claim kids need two parents
Edit: I don't mean to appear nasty or anything but I feel that the arguments like two parents are only applied selectively by homophobes and bigots.

Does the fact that so many Gay and Lesbian couples are having and raising children get them any closer to legitimizing their relationships.

Sadly no.

I'm gay, I have a son...does that mean I get to marry my partner?

My Uncle is 67 and his new wife is 63...she's past menopause...does that mean she can't get married now?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You see how stupid this whole line of think can get?
Why not just allow all marriages between Consenting, Adult, Human beings...who don't happen to be related by blood...and let the churches deny ceremonies all they want?
I just don't get it.
you have a valid argument, some people do not look at it like that.
i think that homophobic people fight so hard againt same sex marriages because they are deeply fighting the urge to be with the same sex.
seriously, is the greatest argument that they have against same sex marriages?
it is just pure discrimination. it is the same thing as saying whites can't marry blacks, blacks can't marry asians, and asians can't marry latinos. it is ridiculous. how can someone say who you can love and can't.
legislation needs to focus on real problems that affects us everyday. someone marrying their same sex, has nothing to do with anything.
Not to worry..I bet most heterosexual couples who say it is done only for procreation don't have much in the way of a sex life anyway.
