Yeah, they aren't always accurate.
What you aren't told is to eat at 8 hours prior to your test...then nothing.
If you wait over the eight hour mark, your body will start releasing sugars on it's own and you won't get an actual "fasting" read.
So stop eating 8 hours prior to the testing appt., no longer...or your body will do it's own thing.
The fasting portion of the test is the one most likely to be failed as well...I should know, two pregnancies on a diabetic diet. LOL
If you fail two of the three, they'll label you "gestational"...no biggie though, you'll just be sent to a nutritionist and put on a diet for the remainder of the pregnancy.
Good luck.

There's not really too much you can do to prepare for the 3 hour test. Before I took mine, like the day or two before, I went on a sugar benge for fear I'd have diabetes so I wanted to have one last hurrah(not a smart thing to do for many reasons). The day of your test, don't drink anything that contains carbs or sugars....basically just chug water. Go early and don't eat before you go. They'll take your blood and then give you the glucola again(not bad reminds me of sunkist) and then every hour they will draw your blood again. After the 3rd hour poke you are probably going to be kinda jittery and maybe even dizzy so make sure that you have either a protien snack on standby or plan for a quick trip out to lunch. Don't worry too much about it. Alot of people fail the 1hr and then pass the 3 hour with flying colors. IF you are diabetic it's better to know now than not know so you can watch your blood sugars and help you and your baby and if you don't have it(which I didn't BTW) then it's just another heinous test you lived through and you are a stronger person for it. Good luck!

THe OB I worked for used 130 as the high risk number on a GTT so you are quite a bit over that, but that is only what your BS (blood sugar) was just one time. Unfortunately, you can't cheat or trick a 3 hour GTT. That's the point of it, it checks the way your body metabolizes glucose. A starting, mid and ending.I'm sure your OB wants you to fast (not eat ) before the test , just go by his guidelines. Someone had said avoid sodas, complex carbs, etc. On a 3 hr GTT , it won't matter because they do 3 tests. Just ask your doctor to be sure he wants you to fast before. Lots of women fail the 1 hour and pass the 3 hr just fine. There were a couple of questions similar to yours last week. You may want to search them. 155 is high, tho, but it could be a fluke. If you do have gestational diabetes, maybe you can adjust your diet according to your doctor's regimin. Good luck and please let us know what your results are. I will say a little prayer that it is normal !

Alot of women don't pass the one hour one.. I did but i don't eat alot of sugar cuz it does actually make me sick. But most of the time the GD alot of women pass the 3 hour one. If not then don't worry because thats what the doctors are for :) to help you control it and keep an eye on it and make sure nothing happens. I would just cut out all artificial sugars.

this is very common. most times the mother and baby are fine they will pos. do a 5 hour fasting which is timeconsuming and tiring without food. If you are not diabetic prior to the pregnency it is pos a complication of it. but dont worry . most pregnancys are healthy. My 1st pregnancy 1 had high levels and did the 5 hour fast. My son is healthy and I am to this date not diabetic. Opps, sorry this could be a red flag to pos. diabetic problems later on in your life.

I in simple terms had that attempt accomplished Friday for the 2nd time! fairly you will bypass in and that they'll draw your blood immeadiately. then you certainly will drink this fairly sugary stuff. they'll draw your blood back at one million hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours afterwards. as a ways because of the fact the appointment they'll extra beneficial than in all probability in simple terms diploma you, take weight, hear to the newborn etc. an outstanding form of the conventional stuff they have been doing recently except some thing is incorrect or they sense they could learn some thing. ultimate of success to ya :)

Get lots of exercise to help control your blood sugar.
It's not the end of the world to fail the test but it is important to follow your doctor's instructions on controlling your blood sugar.
