One could argue neither Jeb Bush or George Bush would hold the political offices they hold today if not for the hispanic votes they both recieved. Do you think there will be a significant shift in how the hispanic people vote in the next election? Is there any doubt that the Republicans are not shooting themselves in the foot on this one?

Who said anything about illegal immigration? I asked a question about hispanic immigrants.

Some of the arguments against amnesty do sound in anti-hispanic terms -- e.g. claims that immigrants should speak the language, worries about waves of immigrants altering the culture of the country.

In 2004, George Bush had one of the highest percentages that a Republican had ever gotten from hispanic voters (40%). That percentage has crashed over the past two year and is now below 30%. Since the number of voters who are hispanic is increasing steadily, especially in key states like Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Nevada, the perception that the Republican Party is against hispanic immigrants (whether legal or illegal) will cost the Republican Party votes in 2008. It should be noted that two of the Republicans in 2006 who ran the strongest against immigration in Arizona lost.

I disagree with what the question is asking, i don't think they are hating upon Hispanic immigrants, just the ones who are breaking the laws to enter the nation, and that's not even hating, it's upholding the laws. I live in a state where we are heavily in fluxed by illegal boarder crossings, and at my job we have all had to undergo numerous training sessions on how to better adapt to the environment, and every single study that has come out by the local anthro-researchers has shown damage to our economy, higher crime, lower educational standards, and a division between the peoples of the area.

I think if we're going to debate the issue (which seems the democrats don't want), we need to examine the opposite side first, why is it that people hate the US so much that they are willing to tare down its laws, commerce, standards, and deepen fear.

As far as the election is concerned, I think the progressive movement has shown a complete disconnect with the people in my area and the conservatives are being painted as villains for wanting restrictions. It's a shame we can't have any straight talkers to talk with the people and end all this closed door cloak-and-dagger bad mouthing.

Oh well, angry views from a disillusioned voter!!!

On WHAT one ?? Show me any example of anybody hating Hispanic people .. other than stating inflammatory slander .We happen to have a republican president who would like nothing better than to make life easier for Hispanics who would like to find work in this country - despite the fact that many Americans are against illegal amnesty . I see you added a comment to another Y.A. answer that you are not talking about amnesty ..why not ? It is relevant to the issue . No one hates Hispanics . Why would they ?We don't want unprotected borders . I fail to see what that has to do with Republicans ; and certainly George Bush has projected a fondness for the Hispanic people . Please at least give an example on why you made "hate" a republican issue .

What is your source for saying that Republicans are hating on Hispanic immigrants. I guess I missed that. I have heard a lot about illegals but that does not necessarily mean Hispanics.

Once again some troll comes on and tries to entangle this issue. I have NEVER seen anything from the Republicans (or the Democrats for that matter) that shows "hating on hispanic (sic) immigrants".

I have seen a lot of debate and discussion about stopping illegal immigrants.

no not at all, why would Americans vote to have illegal Immigrants Amnesty? Takes away jobs and raises taxes. Also illegal aliens would have a really hard time voting, don't you think?

Well pretty much all illegal Immigrants are Hispanic, that why.

Wow, you really aren't up to date on current events are you? President Bush is the one that wants to pass the immigration reform bill. This is why his approval ratings are lower now than they were before this whole immigration reform bill. Read the news every once in a while. Besides, illegals can't vote legally, so I'm sure US citizens are the reason he's in office.

Hispanics didn't have squat to do with Bush getting elected. Most Republicans don't agree with BUSH. I lived in Florida during Jeb's hay-day and hispanics didn't have squat to do with why people voted for him.

No one is hating Hispanics. Got it. The word you don't seem to want to say is illegal. Illegal, get it, that means against the law. That's the problem.

LOL, you don't realize there are just as many democrats that doesn't like or want illegals in this country as there are repubs. I'm not a repub so don't even try that you're a republican BS here.

Your accusations are weak and you're only causing the rest of the US Public to hate them.
