I am a 20 year old female from Chicago needing a change of life. I have money saved and I am planning to move in about 8 months. i just don't know the batter place to move. I plan on living and woking in either place for around a year to establish residency so it will be cheaper for me to go back to school. So I thought I'd ask you guys. Which is better? any specific cities or towns in Hawaii preferable or just avoid it altogether?

I just need advice? Please.

To be honest, Hawaii isn't a great job market but it has everything else over Phoenix. The U of H is a better school than ASU, however it's more expensive too. The weather is way better and so is the life style. Phoenix is a party town for college students, so if that is what you are looking for you might consider that. Don't get me wrong, ASU is a good school, just that U of H is better for most majors. It's more expensive to live in Honolulu (and I wouldn't live anywhere else on the islands for what you are looking at), but at your age you can find a decent enough job there. If you can pull it off, I would choose Hawaii in a heart beat.

A lot depends on what you are looking for in a college, and the type of life style you want.

Hawaii is a wonderful place, however, job market and schooling is not as good as phoenix. HOWEVER, in every other way possible Hawaii kicks arizona's as s. I am moving there as soon as I possibly can. Go to Hilo on the big Island, go to the University of Hawaii. (you did not actually mention which degree you were seeking, so make sure they have that degree).
The weather and quality of life is so much better in Hawaii, and from someone who is from Chicago, you would die here when it hits 117 degrees for the 4th month in a row, without any rain, and nothing is green.
It would be too big of a shock to your system. AZ sucks and I cannot wait to get out of here. I wish I could go with you, no Shiznit on that one. Good luck sweetie, and may you have a great life no matter where that ends up being.
P.S. I bought land on the big island and am waiting to build in about 6 yrs time, when I am free to leave this horrible place where I have to literally hibernate all summer long. I burn my hands on the steering wheel of my car (even after having my window shades on) Do yourself a favor. The minute you get off of the plane in Hawaii, there will come over a rush of peace and tranquility and genuine happiness. Get off the plane here, and you will fry and be hit by someone who is better than you and deserved the space you are currently standing in.
Aloha, and Mahalo Julie

Hawaii is kind of more expensive than phoenix to live. There are also less jobs in Hawaii than Phoenix. There are many tourists in Hawaii that it's almost like a place for tourists whereas you don't see any in Phoenix. Housing is way more expensive in Hawaii than phoenix unless you don't mind having roommates or housemates. Rents are cheaper that way. I thought Arizona is a better choice than Hawaii because Hawaii can be kind of isolated and there are not as many jobs there I think. You may also get island fever after living there for a while... Honolulu is the best city to find jobs in Hawaii though... But the air quality is better in Hawaii than Arizona and the crime rate is a lot lower... You don't hear much shootings at all in the news but you often hear that in Phoenix... But I think phoenix has more opportunities than Hawaii...

Hawaii is a superb place, besides the indisputable fact that, activity marketplace and coaching isn't distinctly much as good as phoenix. besides the indisputable fact that, in each and every opposite direction possible Hawaii kicks arizona's as s. i'm shifting there as quickly as I probably can. bypass to Hilo on the massive Island, bypass to the college of Hawaii. (you probably did no longer easily point out which diploma you have been searching for, so make optimistic they have that diploma). the components and high quality of existence is a lot extra powerful in Hawaii, and from somebody who's from Chicago, you're able to die here whilst it hits 117 tiers for the 4th month in a row, with none rain, and not something is eco-friendly. it may be too huge of a marvel on your gadget. AZ sucks and that i won't wait to get out of here. I wish i could desire to bypass with you, no Shiznit on that one. good success sweetie, and could you have an remarkable existence no rely the place that finally ends up being. P.S. i offered land on the massive island and am waiting to construct in approximately 6 yrs time, whilst i'm loose to bypass away this terrible place the place I could actually hibernate all summer time long. I burn my palms on the guidance wheel of my automobile (even after having my window hues on) Do your self a want. The minute you get off of the airplane in Hawaii, there'll come over a hurry of peace and calmness and authentic happiness. Get off the airplane here, and you will fry and be hit by utilising somebody who's extra powerful than you and deserved the area you're presently status in. Aloha, and Mahalo Julie

I, for the most part, grew up here in Arizona. I went to school here on the mainland, but all my brothers and sisters decided to go to school in Hawaii. It was very easy for me to find part-time jobs and support myself through school. My brothers and sisters had a lot more problems trying to do that. In fact, I know a couple of them were actually on food stamps just so they could eat. So, in Hawaii it will be a much higher cost of living. However, none of my siblings would trade the time they spent there. While I was more comfortable over here, they came back with many, many more life experiences that they will never forget. I think that if you think you can pull it off financially you should try to get to Hawaii.

The only caution with that...make sure you take the time to go to your classes. The Hawaiian lifestyle is very laid back and easy going. A couple of my siblings never finished college because they spent more time surfing than they did behind the desk:-)

Good luck...

You need it to be cheaper to go back to school, and so I don't get why you want to move to either of those places, that has to be an expensive move, and then both Phoenix and Hawaii have a high cost of living. If I were you, I'd choose Hawaii. They have tons of beaches, Arizona has zero beaches. And I live in the Phoenix area, so I can tell you it is ridiculously hot from May to August, up to 120 degrees, it sucks, you can't go outside and do anything, traffic is HORRIBLE and crime is everywhere. Choose Hawaii.

Even though Hawaii is a very beautiful state I would not recommend living there (very crowded). My wife's relatives are from Hawaii and they are all starting to move out here. To give you an idea of just how crowded it is, they have never driven their vehicle over 55 mph. I would choose Phoenix.

live in az (chandler to be exact) and have visited hawaii several times.

my bf relocated here to az from chicago about 4 years ago and loves it. two of his sisters are here too and his mom will be moving in about 4 years once the youngest child finishes high school.

hawaii has an extremely high cost of living. normal grocery store things are priced higher just b/c of the cost to get the products to the islands (i noticed this alot when shopping at costco there compared to here). so expect to pay more for everything!!

the job market in hawaii is very sluggish as well. people in the medical profession (such as me-trauma icu nurse) will do well b/c of the nursing demand but otherwise jobs are hard to find.

az is your best bet for affordable living and good job selection. there are some rough, crime infested areas to avoid but trust me-all states (hawaii included-there are some spots of maui you want to avoid!!) have it.

you can rent an apt for anywhere from 600-1200/month depending on size and area. there are thousands of jobs too. weather is ideal for you since you're used to blustery, cold chicago (although i LOVE going to visit my bf's family-no matter what time of year but that's b/c i've lived here all my life LOL). coldest temp in winter is low 40's.

our summers can be brutal but it's a dry heat and you get used to it over time-besides there are tons of water parks and lakes close by. and cool temps are only a 2 hour drive away to Payson,Sedona, or Flagstaff.

in addition-the beaches of cali or nightlife of vegas are only a 5 hour drive away-you can't beat that.

overall if you find the right city to live in (chandler, gilbert, or awahtukee on the east side or peoria, surprise, and parts of glendale in the west) then you should enjoy it here much better!!

checkout craigslist for apt/housing rentals. here is the link for it and some job websites. good luck w/your move
