The universe started in a huge explosion called the "Big-Bang", then it started expanding very fast creating everything we know in the process.

Nowadays the universe still expanding, the scientist think it might continue expanding forever.

The Big-Bang is NOT LONGER a theory. It's a science fact. It's truthfulness have been demonstrated (we have observed the electromagnetic spectra of the explosion with our telescopes).

The dominant theory and most widely accepted currently is the big bang theory. A brief synopsis is here:

A theory is a very strong word and requires significant levels of proof and general scientific acceptance. The big bang theory is very strongly supported by the available evidence.

Also, please note that the big bang was not an explosion, but was an appearance of matter in a singularity and subsequent expansion and cooling into the universe we can see today.

Please also note that there is no stipulation that this is the only universe that exists today, so when you refer to "the" universe, we are really talking about the universe we can currently see.

The latest I heard is that astronomers have detected a period in time when the universe expansion slowed down but instead of beginning to collapse it began to speed up the expansion, they are of the opinion that dark energy is overcoming dark matter. They have no definition for dark energy other than it appears to have a repulsive effect on matter, this is one of those things that makes me wonder about just how much these so called experts really know. Any ideas?

The current, most widely accepted theory is that a singularity that contained all of the matter and energy in the universe underwent a period of faster-than-light expansion called the Big Bang.

That's how science works. Not everyone has the same idea. Different people can see things in different ways and they can try to explain things in different ways. Do some research for yourself to see what makes the most sense to you.

We generally don't change the theory out everyday. Its much too tiring on our staff scientists.
