For Detroit to have had the picks they had and produce as many "busts" as they have screams problems within the organization. Miami went with Culpepper the first half of the year and never really gave Harrington a full opportunity to show what he can do.
If Vick can not play this year Harrington will get his chance at salvation. However, if he fails in Atlanta I see little hope for future redemption. Personally I think he would do well in Atlanta as they have a good supporting cast for him. Which for me means that whether Harrington is a bust will go hand in hand with the outcome of Vicks investigation. If he gets a full season of opportunity look for him to do some good things, if he sits look for him to fade away.

Joey was given ample opportunity and failed. During his tenure it's true that the Lions were rebuilding, but he had some outstanding WR talent and decent protection from the O-line. He lacked the field-general mentality that the great QB's have.
It's always your fault when you bust. Great QB's have done much more with much less than what Harrington was dealt.

i have the same birthday as Joey Harrington now that i look at his stats and info lol. he had a good chance on the Lions but he was young and his receivin corps was young. he just never really had the throwin power and accuracy. in his first years in the league 2002-2003, he didn't have anyone to throw to. he ended up with 29 TDs and 38 INTs in a total of 30 games within that span. i'll give him a break for his rookie year, but for bein the #3 overall pick in 2002 this is inexcusable. come 2004, Roy Williams was drafted 7th overall and had a nice rookie year with 54 receptions, 817 yards, and 8 TDs. that year, Harrington ended up havin 19 TDs compared to only 12 INTs. in 2005, Harrington got benched cuz he wasn't gettin it done and Williams got injured. Jeff Garcia started ahead of Harrington (who played only 12 games and Williams played only 13 games). in 2006, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins. many blame the horrible offensive line and the lack of production from the defense that Harrington was provided with. he just never had the weapons, but showed potential when he started for my favorite team, the Miami Dolphins, and shut out the Patriots in 2006. the Dolphins had a lackluster offensive line as well. now he's with the Atlanta Falcons, backin up Michael Vick of course. the Falcons have a very good offensive line, which explains them bein one of the top teams in rushin yards for the past couple of years. if Vick gets benched for whatever reason, then Harrington might be a nice sleeper for the Falcons. he's gonna be 29 years old in October but i think he still has time to have at least a couple productive seasons under his belt.

I used to be a Joey Harrington supporter, but I think it may be too late for him. He may end up being the starter in Atlanta this year if Michael Vick gets in trouble for killing dogs.
At best, he's been decent since leaving the Lions... he's a good backup QB, but I wouldn't ever trust him to be my starter.

He was thrown into a bad situation with the Lions. I think if he lands in the right place and the situation where he isn't pressured to be the man, he could succeed. I thought he did pretty well last year and personally felt the Dolphins should have resigned him and had him be the guy.

A better question would be, does Joey have the ability to change his career? The answer would be no.
