It depends on how deep the scratch is.
If it's shallow and only into the clear coat, it can generally be buffed out with compound and you'll never see it.
If it's deep to the touch and goes into the paint to where you can see metal or undercoating the you will have to have it sanded down, smoothed out and repainted.

You can try using a mild polish-wax. Do not rub hard or long. Use a very soft cloth that doesn't add more scratches. Never use touch up paint to fill a scratch; it will only make the scratch more noticeable. If you go to a paint shop, do not repaint just a panel or door as it will be very obvious to the trained eye. Sometimes a paint shop can use special fine cleaners or rubbing compounds that will reduce the obvious scratch. Ask for a demmo on a panel that isn't easy to see.

Hello,
Depending on how deep the strach is on your BMW you may not need to take it to a body shop. All you would need is some touch up paint from the parts department of your local BMW dealership.
Most places do not charge for estimates, just call and set an appointment and they can tell you if the scratch is deep or not.
Good Luck!

If it's a minor scratch, no big deal. Get some wax and polish it out. If it looks deep, you could get some rubbing compound (Turtle Wax has some decent ones from Autozone) to take the scratch out before applying a coat of Meguire's Gold Class wax.
Note - for scratches, only REAL waxes will do. Don't use any of those synthetic polishes (Nanowax, ICE,...etc). Those won't help.

if you can buy a horse, cant you buy the saddle?
if it is not deep you can polish, otherwise
spent a couple of hundreds and get the paint touched up profesionally.
Another alternative is buy two good BMW stickers and stick on both side to look like new fashion.
