Depends... It all comes down to what you are intending to do with your computer...

Generally speaking...
If you are intending to do high-end graphics and are not dependent upon Windows software applications (or applications could work inside Windows emulator), then a MAC could be your answer (since it is the current craze and there are benefits in the PC industry).

If you are going to focus on business applications and general use, Windows might be the answer for you (per cost on hardware, Windows PC are cheaper).

In my honest opinion, MACs are cool but I do not think it is always cost effective depending upon your usage (for example: gaming, heck no since Apple don't really make games).

There's gotta be more than a hundred answers to this already if you do a search.

However.

Mac.

They're very easy to upgrade, and come with pretty good hardware out of the box. The kind of set-up most PCs upgrade to. If you were to configure a Dell to the same specs as an iMac or MacPro, and add comparable software that Apple includes, that Dell would cost a little more than the Mac. You get what you pay for.

Peripherals are plug and play, and yes, Mac's come with multi-function mice now. They're dead easy to upgrade, and there are hundreds of periferals and upgrades available for many, many companies.

Macs can have multiple operating systems loaded. You can be running in native OSX, and run windowze through parallels (we have one at work doing this) so we can used the ONE PC app we need, that isn't available for a Mac (Publisher).

Let's address a few cherished myths from the MS Fanboy club.

To the poster below who says there are NO games for a Mac? Mind explaining to me why Halo, Doom 3, Unreal Tournament, AvP, Warbirds, Elite Force, and about 20 other games are on my Mac? Theres tons of games for Mac. All Mac native.

Having a UNIX BSD base, OSX is a far more stable and secure system, and not prone to viruses. And for those who still insist on quoting that tired old myth about market share and viruses: UNIX varients are the most widely used operating systems outside the home, yet they suffer none of what windows suffers.

Apple does NOT make all the software for Macs. They make the operating system, the iLife suite (bundled with Macs), and a couple of others. I use Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign Dreamweaver, Acrobat Pro), MS Office (Word, Excel, etc), and a smattering of other apps for my work. It is true you can't walk into Best Buy and find Mac Apps, but you can go into Fry's, CompUSA, and of course any Apple Store. Mac apps are available online by the thousands. I have the same apps at home, plus a few dozen games, including the best sellers.

For some inexplicable reason, PC people seem to have the odd idea that Macs are only good for graphics. A little reasoning here. Graphics are the single most operation intensive procedure any computer can perform, and Macs do it well because they have serious process operation ability. All that other junk a PC does, a Mac does without even breathing hard.

I've used both systems. Windowze is clunky and bloated by comparison. A pain in the cyber-butt.

The next Mac OS, OS 10.5 "Leopard" will be out this fall. Apple moved all of their software engineers over to the iPhone project to get it out in June.

Apple innovates.
MS Imitates.

pc:
pros: gaming, lasts longer [if careful], easy and way cheaper to upgrade, software in general is just more popular on a pc

cons: for certain types of computers [gaming and multimedia mainly] you have to upgrade your comptuer constantly if you want to be playing all the latest games on perfect settings, if your a pc noob you can easily wreck your computer or important things by messing with files

mac
pros: extrememly stable, extremely user friendly interface, a virus is amazingly hard to get on a mac
cons: no games [i'm serious, there are NO games for macs]. upgrading is expensive and usually doesn't boost a macs performance as much as it would a pc. their also usually about $400 more than a pc with the same exact hardware.

over all i'm a pc guy, i'm a huge gamer, i constantly upgrade my pc for the novelty of it, not because i need to. mac's are for people [sorry to say, this is a general statement] who are usually computer retarded and most of the features in mac's in the long run are completely pointless but attract a younger crowd for its looks.

if you wanna get eye boggled for a month or two get a mac.. but then you can't really do much more with it.

No I got a better one!

Coke or Pepsi?

You can't just ask PC or Mac. Though I don't know why I would try to explain that, as this clearly isn't a real question.

Macs are Much more capable of movie making and other creative projects i would go with a mac but they are not compatible with most programs before you buy a computer or any other device go to the site below put in the device name and watch the video of the product or read about it

Either way, you did not say what you planned to do, traditionally:

PC is delegated to do most of business work. Has the potential of reaching to unknown territory because the hardware for it is much easier to come by in the market at large.

Mac is delegated for visual work. You better know in advance what is it you need from this appliance called A Computer before you shell out for a Mac.

pc's

the whole advertising campaign of macintosh is that it's easy to use. but unfortunately most people aren't nearly that retarded. and they cost WAY more

you can get a good, fast, and reliable PC for way cheaper than a crappy mac
