Gatorland is correct and Busch Gardens in Tampa does have a lot of animals also, of course they are the animals that you would see on a safari.
If you are going to Tampa as well as the Orlando area the Lowry Park zoo is a really nice zoo.
Tampa is actually about one and a half hours from Orlando, I live in between both cities.

Gatorland on South Orange Blossom Trail is probably what your Grandmother is remembering. It's still there and is a neat place.
Other Animal/Zoo Attractions near Orlando:
Disney Animal Kingdom
Central Florida Zoo - Sanford
Gator Jungle in Christmas
Bush Gardens in Tampa
Lion Country Safari - West Palm
Silver Springs - Ocala
And there is always nature itself. Try canoeing on the Wekiva, or at Blue springs. Lots to see,

Sounds like Gatorland to me. Located on highway 441(Orange Blossom Trail). Link is below. It's about 10 minutes from where I live and it's nothing but gators.
There's also Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World, Seaworld, Central Florida Zoo, and Green Meadows Petting Farm.

We have just moved to Orlando from the UK and have three children (3, 5 and 6). For an all day breakfast go to Denny's - its really cheap and will keep you full for ages. Try not to eat at Disney if you can help it - we spent nearly $30 on pastries and drinks for five the other morning at MGM when we could have had a huge breakfast at Denny's for the same price. For lunches try Subway - it's very competitively priced and a healthier alternative to burgers - the meatball marinara sub is very filling (also a favourite of Joey from Friends!). If you do go to McDonalds there is a huge one on Sand Lake Road which is the largest in the world and has a deli counter, pastas, burritos and stir-frys. If you like Italian food and pizzas go to Olive Garden (there's plenty on 192, International Drive and one opposite the Millenia Mall and Florida Mall) - their portions are massive and they bring out a huge complimentary bowl of salad and breadsticks. At Universal there's Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. based on the film Forrest Gump. Chilis and Ruby Tuesdays are a good alternative to TGI Fridays. Also, try Dave n Busters - it's a restaurant and arcade area for the whole family. There are also plenty of themed dinners to go to but they tend to be expensive. Don't forget when you eat out your tip is not included in the bill - usually add on 15%. Enjoy your holiday.

In the West Palm Beach area ( about 21/2-3 hours south of Orlando) is a wonderful drive thru Wild Life safari zoo that's wonderful. It's close to the West Palm Beach airport.Been there a few times and the kids love it.

Disney's Animal Kingdom and Busch Gardens in Tampa are both great parks if you want to see animals. If you want more marine life then go to Sea World and/or Discovery Cove. Busch Gardens, Sea World, and Discovery Cove are all owned by the the same people so you can get discount packages on your tickets if you go to 2 or more of the parks.

there's a place called gatorland, it's a show-type thing that you have to pay for. or there's the driving- trails in titusville. although it's called the merritt ilsand wildlife refuge. depending on the time of year, you'll see gators in the wild. i even saw a wild pig once. and supposedly a bald-eagle lives there. busch gardens has a safari. and zoos in brevard county, orlando, and miami.
