Recent polls show Democrats feel the less worried of a terrorist attack in this country?
Why? They claim we lost the war on terrorism.
Well I am so glad Democrats are feeling safe, they deserve it!.

Because they chose to believe that fundamental Muslim terrorists would be nice if we just talked to them.

They have short memory's. there we several terrorists attacks on US embassy's and naval ships before 9/11.

Because we are fighting in Iraq the terrorists are pre-occupied with fighting us on their soil, they do not have the time or money to spread out to other US targets.

If we were not fighting over in the middle east, there would be more of them trying to make their way here.... I am shocked that the left does not see that.

I am not sure that Democrats are less fearful of a terrorist attack than Republicans. You cite a poll saying they do. Who was polled? How was the question asked? How much of a difference was there between Republicans and Democrats?

Above, I asked how the question was phrased. This could affect the results. One thing I will say is that George Bush's focus on the War on Terror--with the mess in Iraq and an unfinished escapade in Afghanistan-- may seem to Democrats as partly a political ploy. The WoT was certainly the central thing in W's reelection campaign in 2004, and Democrats are likely less likely to believe W's endless references to the WoT just because of who is delivering them.

Another thing, these days Democrats seem more focused on domestic issues (education, the economy, etc.) so this might influence some of them to put less emphasis on the issue of terrorism.

Finally, a couple of years ago (though I haven't heard of this recently) every other month or so the Feds would raise the security level to orange or red. And then nothing seemed to happen. People started wondering if Bush's people did this just to get people's minds off other political difficulties he was having at the time. I'd say one can only raise these alerts a few before people start to disregard what the government says.

There is a greater chance that you will be hit by a piece of Skylab than a terrorist attack.

That is why we don't worry about it all day, every day. It just isn't that frequent an occurence. That and just not believing the fear-mongering of a government that has been dead wrong about every scary thing they said about Iraq.

No one claims that we lost the war on terrorism. I claim that we lost the peace in Iraq by having no plan for the occupation besides "accept all of the cards and flowers from the Iraqis."

The war on terror is an idiotic idea. Why not have a war on murder? There were 15,980 murders in 2001. Even if that counts the 3000 on September 11th, that is still 4 times more people killed by murdererd than in those attacks. Why are conservatives so soft on murder? Do they want the murderers to win? Are they not prepared to shred the Bill of rights so that we can be protected from murder? Heck, we can invade Lichtenstein. They have as much to do with the US murder rate as Iraq did with 9/11.

Why do conservatives side with the murderers? Where is the uproar?

See how silly that is? That people fall for that crap?

Republicans have bought into Bush's scare tactics and that's why a diehard 29% still continue to support him. The rest of us aren't so easily convinced. In case you didn't bother to do the math, that means 71% aren't going along with him any more, and that includes a lot of Republicans.

"Naturally, the common people don't want war...but after all it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a parliament, or a fascist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country"

Because in the past 100 years, we have had two attacks on our country.

Really, there WAS no war on terrorism. It was only an excuse to go into the middle east and take out a dictator we didnt like. Have we found Osama Bin Laden yet? Have we found any WMDs in Iraq yet? Nope. But we DID manage to destroy thier culture and force democracy on them. Good work, good work.

Well, i cannot answer for the dems, but as a TRUE conservative, i am not worried about one either. I refuse to worry about them. Lots of so called conservatives have let the terrorists win. The point of terrorism is not to kill people, its to make people change the way they live. I refuse to change my life out of fear. However the PAT ACT, warrant less wiretaps, and gitmo are all ways of letting the terrorists win. If the wannabe cons running this country had balls, they would battle terrorists using legal constitutional methods, instead of letting them win like they have.

Now watch, i will get dozens of thumbs down from the wannabe conservatives here for exposing them as frauds. Its happens every time. Its sad really.

I actually feel pretty safe, and I'm a Republican. I don't spend any time worrying about terrorist attacks, and neither should you. Even in the worst of circumstances, they are rare and unlikely to hit. The only reason we had that one major attack was because of stupid rules that prevented pilots from being armed and discouraged passengers from fighting back.

We should never let terrorists strike fear into our hearts. If we do that, we've already let them win. Remember, they are not fighting to win a military victory, they are seeking to instill terror. If you give in and give up your liberty, you've fallen prey to their game.

"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."

Democrats aren't truely less fearful of a terrorist attack then a Republicans, however we aren't willing to flush the constitution down the toilet in the name of terrorism. That's the difference.

Because they realise that Bush is using the "war on terror" as a means to manipulate the american public?

Just as Kerry said during the last election they almost want to treat it as a police action instead of a war.

We realize that walking around our whole lives in fear is what they want...and y'all have bought it hook line and sinker...The War in Iraq has made us less safe and abbetted terrorists far more then anything a lib could do, it gave them daily access to killing Americans, weakened our alliances across the world, gave them some semblance of a point of emphasis(when we had the world entirely on our side after 9-11), cost us trillions that could have been spent tightening our internal security, and allowed them to establish themselves in another country with no order.
