I have a 1996 Buick LeSabre, custom edition. When I start the car the first time, the engine doesn't start. When I start the car the second time, the the engine revs up and the car shakes, makes weird noises (dananana....putt putt putt) but the engine is still running. The "check oil" and the "check engine" light comes on. Then when I go to press down on the brake (which is heavy) and switch gears...the car makes a loud boom noise and the engine shuts off. I have 110,888 miles on the car. I recently got an oil change, a new coil pad, and a new battery. I need help from an expert...I am low on cash. Does anyone know what is wrong with the car?

coil could be bad... new coils are a crap shoot when you buy replacements.

Have you looked under the hood since you brought it back from the shop?? It could be something as simple as that they forgot to put the cap back on after changing the oil, or they forgot to put the filter back in and you lost all of your oil. Go check it yourself. Very cheap, get a paper towel, and check the dipstick for an oil level. wipe the dipstick off then put it back in completely, then take it out and read it. there's little lines on it that show the level.

If it's the coil, that could explain that it won't start the first time. I'd call the shop and tell them they need to fix it, because it did it after they worked on it. (This only works if it was within the last couple of days.)

if it's out of oil, and you've been driving it, there's a chance you've siezed the motor up. Go check your oil, then drop me an email or catch me on messenger and i'll walk u thru some other things.

Good luck!!!

Oh darling, it sounds like there are sooooo many things wrong with your car! You're transmission is probably shot and needs replacing or repairing. It could be your pistons are scored, and that's why you get that weird noise. The booming/shut off is probably the transmission. The not starting is the alternator or the ignition (probably the former). If the car is "reving" on it's own, it's timing chain maybe, but probably the transmission.
I'm so sorry, but this is not a cheap fix. Your best bet is to find a mechanic who's willing to work with you. Contact a junkyard with his help (if you do the research your help, it'll save you money) on e-bay or the like, and get the parts you need used. It'll save you tons of money. But be aware no matter what, you're looking at a rebuilt transmission and assorted other repairs. It may be time to put the old gal out to pasture. I'd need more information though before I could narrow what's wrong down. There's only so much I can do by computer.

First check the fluids, next change the fuel filter especially if you have a tendency to let the gas tank go below 1/4 tank. Then put some STP in the tank in case of moisture. The loud boom noise is what bothers me sound like unburned gas is getting to the exhaust which would mean a dead cylinder, or a burnt valve, neither of which is cheap

Allison for what you are saying that the load boom sound it might be your tranny that has taking a dump on you and on your brakes being hard that is i sign that your brake booster or master cylinder has gone out !

one could be a vacuum leak. the check oil light could be a faulty sensor. it would be close to betting that when the coil was replaced the vacuum hose was knocked off.
