Think of something else or do something that takes your mind off it. The one way to replace a behavior or thought is with an incompatible or other behavior or thought. Just stopping it does not work all the time. I would also recommend meditating or relaxation techniques on a regular basis as a way of training yourself to manage your thought processes.
