This is a totally serious question. The fact is, women have two very good reasons to avoid combatitive sports and they're both attached to their chest.
I mean...don't you get hit in the breasts over and over if you're sparring? The chest is pretty much the #1 target, so it'd seem kind of impossible for women to compete in this sort of thing.

I've done muay thai style kickboxing for the past four years... yes, sometimes I get tagged in the chest while sparring... but women can wear protective gear if they want... and it's true, the chest is not the #1 target, like other posters have said... AND, even when I have gotten tagged - it actually does not hurt that much, and I'm a pretty curvy person, if you get my meaning.

The benefits to martial arts far outweigh the risks - and it's FUN.

My daughter is not only a martial artist but a California State Chapmpion wrestler. When you compete you wear a sports bra!!!!!! If you are good enough in martial arts you will not get hit in the chest. As far as wrestling goes I'm pretty sure she can kick a$$ on anyone that asks a stupid question like this.

yea they wear protection, but also you can't hit them in the chest. at least it was like that where I went martial arts. Edit: think your allowed to in kickboxing, but kickboxing isn't a martial art, a martial art means a fighting system that an army uses.eg. Karate-American, Tang-Soo-do American Airforce

the chest target is in the chest, not below it. the solar plexus is a seperate target.

My mother is a martial artist (1st kyu brown belt, Isshinryu.) There are chest pads the women wear while sparring, that's all.

The chest actually isn't the number 1 target, rather the face and extremities, followed by the stomach, in contact sparring.

I have no knowledge of boxing, but my daughter takes martial arts, and all the participants wear protective gear when sparring. The chest target, the solar plexus, is actually located just below the breasts.

i was in martial arts for years & never got hit in the chest (or if i did it never hurt--the shins are much worse!). it's a very easy area to defend. whatever is open is usually the #1 target. it's definitely not impossible for women to compete in this area. to be honest, we were taught that the #1 target (when needing to defend oneself in real life) should be the crotch, even for women it hurts to get hit there (not nearly as bad of course!).

We just do!!! Some girls just don't let any thing (like possibly getting hit in the chest) get in there way...... Most if not all of them wear protections (they Have to wear them at competitions in my style of karate..... as for the other styles and other types of competition i don't know but I think that they do. As for my class we focus on the stomatch, head, legs (iner and outer..... hehehe everyone should be careful when trying this!!!) and such........ What does this all mean? We just weat protection and be carfull.... I hoped this helps! good luck

My "Ex" seemed to think I was Laura Krofft (Tomb Radiar Video Game) ... and we did a no-contact sparing all the time. He'd teach me moves (punches, kicks, forms) ... and we'd play. He also taugh me how to deal with guns. The only aggressive physical contact we did was wrestling, which I usually pulled the tickle card and pinned him ... but I think he was just being sweet and letting me win. Although, I did have the "Youth" (being 10 years younger than him; never again, what a disaster!!!) ...but even with him being an old man ... he was strong and talented in fights.

Well, people with testicles also face a potential hazard as do people with breasts that have developed to a certain point.

They have cups, and they also have chest pads. Not everyone uses them. I have watched some people utilize blocks to protect their chests (and/or testicals).

sometimes injuries occur to different places of the body.

When I was practiciing martial arts, I didn't regularly hit people in the chest, as one kid I heard of died because his heart stopped when someone punched him in the chest.

I am a girl and I compete in martial arts, and fencing. You have to put a protective 'shield' on. I do not know about boxing, though.
